Would anybody know if there's anywhere I can buy brass replacement 'scopes, DF loop..that sort of thing, for the Revell Gato? The plastic ones don't seem to last very long...
I don't know how this will work in the long run, or on a Gato, but I'm trying different mast materials on my 1:144 Seawolf since I don't foresee the stock styrene masts lasting too long.
Carbon fiber rod comes in sizes ranging from 0.05" to 1/8" to 3/16" and CF tubing ranges from 1/8" to p'haps 1/2". On the Seawolf, I drilled straight and even holes between the top of the sail and the hull (ie, bottom of the sail) and inserted 0.070" CF rods into these holes. The CF is strong, light and will probably cause injury before breaking. I'll have to make the teardrop mast housings and the dodads at the top of the masts (epoxy with chopped glas fiber or cast resin) but the basic masts look good and strong.
