Re: 2009 Raffle results are in!

I must say that a separate flyer for the raffle was inserted in each envelope in issue 78 SCR magazine sent out. That issue did go out very close to on time, if not, only a week late, making that the first week in September to arrive if you have first-class delivery. If you don't, then maybe you should get it next year. If you can't afford that, it's not the club officers' fault. And even before that on the SC website it was posted as soon as it was set up. And it was set up as soon as it could be after the kind and gracious Mr. Bob Dimmack offered the prizes. It turns out this is the best way for the club to promote it because we aren't made out of money. In fact the reason for the raffle was to raise money for the club. In fact instead of complaining you didn't get a chance, you should be thanking OTW models for their generous gift.

As well as this, I know members were talking about it too—word of mouth at fun runs, forum and such.

This club does not have the means to cater to all its members individually. If you want to know what is going on, you have to get involved. Check in on the forum. Use the "view new posts" feature every time you do check in. That will show you all posts made since you last logged in. And on top of that, stop in at a fun run if you can. Otherwise, on this one, I think it's your own fault if you didn't know. And if you just joined, then you can see what you've been missing, and welcome aboard. Maybe next time.

I think it was well publicised! Good job SCR bosses.
I recieved a nice two page flyer in the same envelope
as my SCR magazine back in Oct-Nov. Sent my money in around Dec. 22, 23.
Got an e-mail from the treasure with my ticket numbers on Dec. 26.

A big thank you to Bob Dimmack of OTW for the donations!

How about spaming the e-mail boxes for these offical events.
A banner at the top of the page could be used for advertising these raffles.

A raffle for new members in 2010 might include a CD of past SCR issues.

      Scott

There was a banner at the top of the forums for this raffle. I thought theadvertisement passed out with the SCR was done up very well with its ww2 weathered memo look. I agree though you choose your own level of involvement.

I thought the Raffle was well run, as well! I only wish I would have bought a dozen tickets. I really like the way that flier was layed out. I have it on my bulletin board in my shop. That OTW 1/32nd scale S class is a first class kit. Bob cranks out the very best at OTW and he is a first class guy. Many thanks to Bob for his generosity!

Congratulations to the winners and thanks to the EC for setting this up. A BIG thanks goes out to to Bob Dimmack - a class guy all the way who supports the SC!

Here is a little secret for you guys on the next raffle. The guy who won the raffle also had the most tickets. The rules of probability do work

Just one more note to maybe clear some things up.

I did the raffle flyer design and set it up to look like WWII Navy Department official orders. Following that format, I put Myles on there as Commanding Officer, and that the orders were coming from the Commanding Officer, as they would have on official orders.

Perhaps I did Myles a disservice by doing so. Myles had nothing to do with my choosing that wording. I was just trying to make it fun. Myles does not think of himself as "Commanding Officer", and works on an equal level of respect with all the club officers and anyone else I've witnessed from the club working with him. So please don't think that Commanding Officer description came from anyone's ego, especially Myles'.

And I'm sorry Myles if that presented a negative impression of you with any of the members.

                  Pete,
I don't really see where you did Myles or anyone a disservice by placing Myles as the Commanding Officer on the Raffle orders nor was it confusing, at least to me. Myles is the duly elected president of the Subcommittee and as such is in effect the Commanding Officer. I thought what you did was pretty cool by making the announcement appear as an official Navy document.
And if I remember correctly the raffle was an OH BY THE WAY thing pulled together late in the year to help the club so getting the information out the way you and everyone else involved did was the best anyone could do under the circumstances. If the raffle came about at the beginning of last year then the complaint would have been warranted but it didn't. The orders also say the first subcommittee sponsored raffle which says to me that as long as prizes can be found through a generous donation as is the case with Bob Dimmack of OTW then there will be other raffles for the members and registered users to participate in. I hope this is the case and I'm not off base on the last parts. Sorry if this sounds like a rant, it's not meant to be. Just my opinion.
Congratulations to the winners and thanks to Bob Dimmack for helping out the Subcommittee.
                  Don

Thank you Pete for your explanation, but you do not have to feel as if you did me any disservice, as I said previously,
you and all the members involved in the raffle did one heck of a professional job and I would not change a thing if I had to do it all over again, thank you for all your hard work
Also Pete thank you for your years of service as editor of the SubCommittee Report you will be miss, thank you again.

                    Myles President of the SC.

                      Pete,
Thank you for your confession. It is quite obvious from the above posts that Myles had no idea what you were doing. So, I guess I owe Myles a bit of an apology as the impersonation an officer wasn't of his doing.

However, in your interest to make something fun, did you ever go back and proof read your copy? Of coarse the answer is no! Go back and read your full page memo again. Do you see your mistake that could have averted this entire dialogue?
You forgot to mention the simple price of the raffle ticket. Duh!

In keeping with your theme of fantasy, I will bow out and not send you to "Captain's Mast". However, next time, proof read your copy and save the theatrics to the movie script authors...whose writings were very good I must add!

And if you just joined, then you can see what you've been missing, and welcome aboard. Maybe next time.
You need to do your homework Myles. Looks to me like I'm senior to you by what...244 members? Yeah, maybe next time.

Jim it is apparent you are not aware of a point of interest.

I have actually been a member of the SC since 2 or 3 year of SC creation, in 2005, I missed paying my dues and was late sending them in so when I did they put that date on my membership, but if it makes you feel good yes 244 members senior to me but in actually it is more like 244 member junior to me.

Jim it is apparent that you did not read the whole flyer the raffle ticket price's are there read the rules for the raffle Pete did not forget it is you that need's to learn to read the whole flyer before posting miss information again Pete excellent work .
read rule number 2 also read rule 5 you will find the price's

Jim it is apparent that you are one of those people who just has to be complaning rather then complaining why don't you step up and take part in making thing better for the club, the managing editors post is open why don't you step up and take the post that way you would not have to worry about other people not doing their homework as you put it. It is clear again you did not do you homework before posting misinformation

                          Jim,
The price was listed on the flyer insert. It was not listed on the SCR ad in the December issue, but the last line says, "See http://subcommittee.com/SubComm/raffle.cfm for complete rules."

Space limitations on a one-page ad in the SubCommittee Report guided me to direct readers to the website for full details to answer any further questions. So it wasn't a mistake, but an editorial decision.

Sounds like you got a lump of coal in your stocking for Christmas. What's the big deal here? Your suggestions have been noted, and I'm sure will be considered "IF" there is ever another SubCommittee raffle. But after all this complaining, I'm thinking it's not worth it for any of us to bother. Thanks. You've probably ruined a good thing here. Happy now?

                            Hi Pete

Thanks for the information you are pretty close to being correct there most likely will never be another raffle due to
all this complaining from one person who clearly did not read the website post's dealing with the raffle, did not clearly read
the SC Report article completely, and surely did not read the Raffle flyer in its entirety.
Sorry people but if there are no more raffles you can only blame one person.
