I certainly can't take any credit for the forums. They are Ronald's baby all the way. He's worked very hard to keep them up to date and has pulled off a very smooth upgrade. Bravo Zulu, Ronald!
I have added two buttons in the message posting screen. these buttons start up separate windows for the image hoster of your choice
BIG WARNING : pressing those buttons will also wipe clean any text you might already have typed in the post
so, start with a clean slate and press one of the buttons ]
press the browse button to search your PC and select the picture you want to post; press "host it"
the picture is now shown, together with a lot of links. choose one that starts with "img" or "url"
copy this string whole, it should also end with "img" or "url"
You have probably noticed that those screenshots above do not look like
the SC forum.
To confuse you, I have enabled a second "style" in the forum.
you can select a style in your user control panel -> board preferences;
see the screenshot below.
a style changes not the available functions but it can change the appearance of the pages drastically.
in windows the same idea is called a "skin" or "theme".
A few people have remarked that they would prefer the avatars and usernames to appear on the
left instead of the right. this is something the added style does for you.
you can switch these styles at will, it just changes the looks.
however, most of my changes to the board happen to be style-related. so some fixes might not
be present in all styles directly, as I need to implement changes in two different styles now.
the style called prosilver (what you have seen until now) is the default and most-tested style,
the AeroBlue style is a "nice to have" as far as my priorities go.
@Larry
I'm busy getting the kinks out, please simply try it out.
this migration was NOT driven by demand for new features, but simply
by the need to remain current with the software.
up to date open source software is supported by a lot of people,
but with the ancient versions we used, support was limited to,well, me.
more info on the general possibilities of the board can be found
here ]http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/userguide/index.php
@Andy
the new boards knows socalled "styles", which govern the layout of the features presented.
while the current is the default style, I will deploy another style which has the avatars on the left again.
users will (probably) be allowed to choose from these styles.
Regards,
Ronald
Thanks Ronald. That is exactly what some of the IT guys said here, "the software is probably so old it wasn't supported any longer so time to upgrade".
There's a known problem with the old boards that seems to have been corrected now: the failure of the view new posts link. I've been using Firefox and have used the link multiple times and haven't once gotten the failure notice about it being "too soon since I last used it" (paraphrase).
Ronald,
Great job The new board seems fine and I don't see some of the problems others are talking about, ex. signature files super-sized.
I do have a question.I have been clicking on "login" at the top but noticed that the bottom of the page already has the blank fields to fill in, so now I scroll down to the bottom to login. Could those blank fields be at the top of the page instead?
Thanks
Last visit date/time - it is unclear what this represents or when the date/time is captured. Looking at it as I am entering this reply, it is showing Wed Nov 11, 2009 9:45pm. The last time I accessed the forum was a few hours earlier today....so I would expect the timestamp to reflect that?
-Jeff
p.s. the current timestamp shows the correct time.
I don't see some of the problems others are talking about, ex. signature files super-sized.
This only occurred in the optional 'Aero blue' style, but I'm glad to say has now been fixed. I recommend the 'aero blue' style, I find it much more legible and clear than the default board style. I hope the administrators will eventually make it the default style.
