I thought I would post this with my coffee this morning.
I found this photo on RC groups. It is a drawing of a surface running 571 model from a book back in 1957. I specifically noticed the mention of the ESC.
But back then the ESC did not mean electronic speed control it meant escapement. This was an early servo sometimes actually powered by a rubber band.
You can see the rod that attaches it to the rudder.
This allowed you to go either left-center-right. Over and over and over!!
