Thanks for the reply, I do have the Jecobin plans but I have been checking them against pics of the real thing and they don't seem all that accurate, I would however love to be proved wrong but the upper hull looks all wrong around the tower. Would appreciate your input on this though.
They look alright to me, although I'm by no means an authority on this boat.
I know a lot more about the Vanguard class, and have the Jecobin plans for that, and found them to be pretty much spot-on.
There will always by some minor differences, bearing in mind these things are kept under wraps to a certain degree, so you can extrapolate data from the images and modify the drawings to suit.
The Jecobin drawings are the only drawings of this boat I know of out there. I have heard that when these drawings were first released it caused some consternation with the MOD.
Yes I also have the Vanguard plans and agree that they are very close. I do understand why the plans for the Resolution are probably not so accurate as there are many pics of the Vanguard being rolled out of the VSEL building so the detail and shape is on display, and yet I know of only 2 pics of the Resolution class where more than the waterline is on display.
I think I can modify the plans but it isn't going to be easy to tie the side elevation in with the sections as I will be doimg the alterations by hand and not on computer.
Hello, strange you should say that as I have contacted the HMS Resolution association but as yet no reply, they do have some good pictures though and quite a few that I haven't seen before. I feel however this project may end up as an up hill struggle.
i have always been interested in resolution and sometimes catch myself wanting to build a version of her.
One thing that has never been clerly explained to me. Why is it nearly impossible to get dry dock pictures of this class of SSBN when they have been decommissioned for the last 15 years , yet you can easily get very clear dry dock picks of the Vanguard class, a boat that is currently serving, what's with that?
does anybody have any dry dock pics of the Resolution class SSBN? If you do please do us a favour and post em somewhere...
When HMS Ocelot was put into dry dock at Chatham Dockyard it was devoid of props 2 reasons were given, 1 they were handy as spares and they are still top secret and the Ocelot was a 60's early 70's boat. Andy has said that they were sensitive and I agree it is still quite hard to find any drydock pics of Valiant, Swiftsure and Trafalgar classes.
