    Waterproof Cameras

So I'm a huge camera nerd and I hate wasting money on a crap camera. I thought I'd tell you about my bad experiences to help you guys not make the same mistakes. And hope everyone else with positive or negative camera experience would chime in.

Well I was really dissapointed with the footage that I took with this Olympus T-8000 I bought specifically for Carmel. Out of the water stills were so so but not very sharp or in focus most of the time. I'm usually a Canon only guy but couldn't find a D10 soon enough for the event.

I found this great comparison on dpreview: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/Q209waterproofgroup/

I'm picking up a D10 tomorrow so I'll be sure to post up my opinions as soon as I get to test it.

I have also used the GoPro Hero Camera underwater and it was quite alot better than the Olympus. Best thing about the GoPro is since the lens is dome shaped, water drops do not remain on the lens when you've got your camera mounted to your boat. It's pretty lightweight so it won't effect your boats trim too much and the waterproof case is really nicely made. My only gripe about the Hero is the 2gb card limit. It is very easy to take the camera out of the waterproof case to change them though.

here is a link to my vimeo site:

Sorry, we couldn’t find that page

all the videos were taken with the same camera]http://www2.oregonscientific.com/shop/p ... 14&pid=709[/url]

old by today's standards (640x480, 30fps, 25 degree wide angle lens), but, it cost me all of $79.95....

it is a nice shape for the model subs, and it is good down to ten feet.

quite a few guys in SC use them.

      Yep, I've seen you're videos

Yep, I've seen you're videos before Tim. That camera works fine. The Hero cam that I have does seem to be alot more steady as far as adjusting exposure. The Oregons can be somewhat twitchy in the sunlight.

        pigeon,

        I agree with the exposure

        pigeon,

I agree with the exposure on the ac2k, the other issue the ac2k has is with the microphone. being buried behind a rubber gasket, it is basically useless.

If you don't mind the damage to your wallet, this one would give you some cracking underwater footage-

            Cool hadn't seen the Sanyo

Cool hadn't seen the Sanyo offering yet. It's in the same price category as the waterproof point & shoots so not too bad. 30X Optical zoom and 60fps recording are pretty snazzy extras too.

I looked at some of the Panasonic TS1 HD footage on Vimeo and it looks the best so far. I've read alot of problems with the camera lens fogging up internally though.

Picked up the Canon D10 today and it looks quite promising. I'll try to test it asap.

              My mouse pointer is hovering

My mouse pointer is hovering above the "order" button for the D10 too - 2nd of the three would have been the Mju Tough 8000 (= the other one waterproof down to 10m), but there were quite a few negative comments on amazon.
As to image quality, I have a knack for the Lumix cameras, but I know myself... when I am in the water with a camera, 3m are nothing, and even for 10m a warning function is a good thing.

Looking forward to your comments on the D10.
