    Sheerline

    Hi all.

I was just wondering if anyone can remember when sheerline was in fact eden models ( dennis cater)

And if the Alfa / Losangeles Classes where scale or free scale???

I've been speaking to Chris regarding the old plugs
Chris produced an Alfa for a chap in norwich

    Just hull and control surfaces.
No wtc supplied upto builder to produce own.
Prop etc might of been from George sitek but not sure.

Alfa is 80" x 9" if memory serves

    los 103" x 10" ?? rough guess

Scale or not scale that is the question???

    regards

    Hi Adam,

    The Alfa and LA

    Hi Adam,

The Alfa and LA were both listed in the Eden catalogue as 1/42 scale your sizes are about right. I bought a Trafalgar kit in 2001 from Sheerline and I am pretty sure that Eden went to Sheerline about 7-8 months before.

I still have the original Eden catalogue with all the prices and pictures any info you need and I can give is yours I may also be able to find out more precisely when the change over happened.

    All the best,

    Peter.

Ramesh (Wheelerdealer) owns one of the LA class hulls, so he would be the best person to contact regarding authenticity.

The Alfa boat looks nicely done, in the photographs I've seen of it, but perhaps wouldn't satisfy someone who demands 100% scale authenticity?

Dunno. But as the Norwich show is this weekend, and I should be attending, if the boat is there, and it should be as I believe it belongs to the clubs Chairman, I will endeavour to find out some more information.

Maybe you could ask him where he purchased running gear from

              and overall wtc size.

              thanks again andy

                I got a lot of

I got a lot of pictures of that Alfa at Norwich. It was sold on to an AMS member who sailed it successfully till the ESC gave up in a big way. The same sub is featured in the Traplet DVD-RC Submariner. I've got some more pic, I'll resize and upload them. As this hull was produced in the early 90's its probably based on the best information available at the time. So whilst its not true scale, its pretty close. Planes and such will need to be reworked if you want a true scale appearence. I think the running gear for Eden was made by Propshop.

The LA on the other hand is a fair representation of the flight one boats, there were plenty of fairly accurate plans available.

                  I had a good gande

I had a good gande at this boat. The dive module wasn't built by Sheerline or Eden, however it was built to their design type, as Chris Cloke (Sheerline no. 1) told me he advised on the design of the dive module.

I didn't have a tape measure or a rule with me, and couldn't procure one, but I estimate the pipe diameter somewhere between 150-200mm- it's a biggy. It was PVC tubing used for the module.

The rest of the running gear was custom made. The prop looked liem it was fabricated from separate pieces and then brazed together.

Would make a good novelty canoe.

I dare say it will make a an appearance at one of the Brockwell Lido runs in October or November, so we might be able to get some video of it running then.

                      Thanks guys.

Andy any hint a size of prop??

Ramesh. How inaccurate are the planes?? decent set of plans and some resin would fix that. If that's all you no about thats off with the model.
i understand things would have been difficult to source refrence wise etc back when dennis had eden models.

I've been speaking to Rob at subtech he was saying that he now sells 1/72 scale alfa's and does wtc, subdriver, module, dive unit, based on water pump system.

just been on the phone with timber supplies workshop being kitted out 1st with new bench that i can walk around easier access for building.

Order going in for an alfa end of next month still to decide which 1 though.

Any ideas on the subtech kit??? Who produced it is it a matt thor job??

Who would be the best 1 to purchase piston tanks from> Engel or Norbert??

Thanks again for info and for checking out the Alfa Andy and ramesh

                      best regards adam

                        Almost forgot is this suitable

Almost forgot is this suitable for a drive motor if i purchase the larger Alfa from Sheerline.

This is a high quality industrial motor (Buhler) that produces high torque at a low speed of 2,650 rpm. Volts 12-24, 12 pole, bearings, 6mm shaft. The current consumption of this highly efficient motor is in the order of 3 amps. Weight 450 gm approx. You do not need anything faster than this for scale speeds but what you do need is the torque power required for the larger props.

                        Motor avaliable from Fleetscale.

Online Store | Fleetscale is a manufacturer of Model Warship & Model Boat Semi kits, hulls, detailing parts, fittings etc covering many scales and eras. 25+ years experience,

Prop size is 4-5", a real biggun. That motor you listed- I don't think it's enough direct drive but would be okay geared down.

The Subtech hull is the old R & R boat. Not massively detailed, and the dimensions are probably a bit out- I'm no expert on Russian boats though, not my bag really.

Ramesh is probably the best person to quiz on this.

I would go for a smaller boat any day. The biggun may look impressive, but it's a sod to lug about, and you will be very limited where you can sail it.
