Yes, these kits will definitely need some work, & you can find related threads posted at Sub Pirates, RCG & Caswell's forum about the issue you raise on Lindberg's I-53.

The I-20 bow appears to be more accurate IF the photos of the initial preview model at the 2007 iHobby Expo are correct.
