I dig up tidbits from time to time and I discovered that the Juliett class sub in Providence RI, was the K81 diesel boat that was used and made up for the movie K-19. How about that? The old boat is a giant movie prop.
I've seen the behind the screen for K-19, and yes, they use the old boat and actually add some 'compartment' to have the exact lenght of the Hotel class boat
If you get in the area, take the tour of the boat. Very interesting! According to the tour guide, they added about 100' to the hull with a fake extension, and also built a fake sail to cover up the real one.
The real sail is one of the most interesting pieces of submarine construction I've seen. The entire forward part of the sail rotates 180 degrees to bring the fire control radar into use, and then rotate sback to streamline and protect it. Very, very cool, and would make an awesome R/C subject!
