    Thanks Tim, But I have

Thanks Tim, But I have already said that I would leave them open and suggested that others be left open while the rest become members only.

while other members suggested that others also be included in being left open.

I tend to agree with the suggestions that have been made so far, all suggestions weigh just as importantly as the next.

    Thanks again

            Hi Ted

To answer you question what are my concerns? my concerns are really very simple at this point.

I need to know what the members think and what the members want so that my officers and I can make informed decisions that wiil benifit the membership.

            Why the possible move?

Well first of all we have 2 types of members here on the board and it was ask of me if we should have a members only section which I think is a good thing. well I,m ahead of myself.

First we have paying members and some of these members feel that they are paying for the right to use the web site because their dues support the web site. I see nothing worng with that train of thought because they are correct.

Second we have the members that use the web site and enjoy all the benifits of the paying members, again thats fine to but at some point the
paying membership should have some type of priviledges that the non paying members don't.

Now with all that said it brings we to the question what do I do? so being that this is your club you the members should have a say as to what we are going to do about this issue. So I decided to put the question to the membership and get your feed back.

            Thank you
            Myles

              Hi, Myles. I've got to

Hi, Myles. I've got to go along with the majority, here. I'm not even sure why a "Members Only Section".
There are a lot of kids, out there, who can't afford a membership. Or, who's parents, don't think it's a worthwhile purchase.
Many of them will join, when they get older. But, not if we lock them out, now.
It might be a good idea, to see how many people use the "Member Only Section", before adding to it.
The main fun of the SubCommittee has been sharing our info and knowledge with those who know little, or nothing, about subs.
If visitors become interested, they'll join. But not if they can't fully explore our hobby.
              Just my two cents.

                I think non members should

I think non members should be restricted in the amount of posts they make, say per week.

If juniors or seniors want to take a peek, so be it, but if they want to post and get information, then there should have a restriction on how many posts they can make.

Another idea. As we are now set-up for Paypal, how about having a donation button prominent on the board. Perhaps folk who don't wish to join, but have benefited from the board would like to donate a few dollars?

Or perhaps you could sell 'posting credits'?

I'm quoting the above because i believe in NOT being so exclusive to new members joining for free...HOWEVER i would pay for an reduced online membership that gives CHEAP access to the site but NO SCC mailed bulletin....Does that make sense? (I am a paid member of Subpirates and enjoy the access it brings, for 20 bucks even i would join SC)...

Sorry but the taxes laws that make us a non-profit organization based in the St. Ct. will not alow us to have two different types of membership
they clearly state all members must pay the same membership dues.
this information can be found under Publication 557 Tax-Exampt status for your Organization
                      under sub title Limited Membership.

                      Thank you

It seem to me you just told us why we should make certin parts of the website members only.

                          Sub Committee report not important

John, for me the report is part of my refrence library and book collection. When I joined we were on issue # 13 or so and I've enjoyed every issue, almost. As far as club publications go. I would say it's in the top 5, a testimony to alot of hard working people over the years. Keep your PDF files, I'll take the report any day,IMHO maybe I'm old fasioned. Ted, SC Member #0611

Perhaps this discussion should be in its own thread...however,

I've gone through this entire discussion/debate in another completely unrelated group I belong to and after the dust cleared it was obvious to all that delivering the hard-copy magazine wasn't as good as the .pdf file one. Why? Because with the .pdf version the editors and contributors were able to present all of the pictures, where available, in color and to include more of them. More articles with better production values not to mention a much lower production cost, in the end, tipped the scales in favor of the electronic version. If you still want a hard copy you're able to print out just the articles you want for that comfy chair.

                              Just my two pfennigs worth,
