Hi Andy thanks for info regarding correct materials and for web link i managed to find that build thread of the car based glassfibre and resin.

It's of a warship.

That's basically a one-off GRP

That's basically a one-off GRP hull using polyester resin. He's used body filler to level off the matt.

I don't use plaster personally- tried it once, couldn't get on with it. I just make a frame up from plywood like shown at the link, then bulk out with polyurethane foam. Resin and glass straight over that lot, then lots of polyester filler and sanding and priming until a good shape and finish is achieved.
