Submarines on Display / Maritime Museums on the East Coast

Here is a request I know you guys can help me with.

Id like to know where all the maritime museums and or submarines on display are along the eastcoast.

My brother and I are considering a week long road trip to visit and tour as many Naval museums as we can, along the eastcoast. Being from Charleston, SC we have already been to the Patriots Point Maritime Museum, as a matter of fact we were there last weekend, and we enjoyed it so much we wanted to see more.

So guys if you could please post here what is open to the public, names of the parks, city and state, and if you can also list the vessels on display that would be great.

    Thanks,
    Stuart

    Starting in the north :

Starting in the north : USS Albacore, the historic high speed prototype submarine, is in Portsmouth NH, just off of I-95 right before it goes into Maine.

USS Lionfish is at Battleship Cove, in Fall River, Ma. Also there is the USS Massachusetts, the Destroyer Joseph Kennedy and a former East German ship. Takes pretty much a whole day.

Submarine Force Museum in Groton, CT. THE home port! USS Nautilus and a collection of smaller submarines, plus a really good museum. Also, be sure to exit the museum and make a right turn (south). Follow the 2 lane road along the Thames. About three miles from the museum you will pass under the Gold Star (I-95) bridge. You will then go under a train bridge. Immediately to the right is the conning tower of the USS Flasher conning tower, and the WWII sub memorial. There is a wall with the names of all lost on submarines during WWII. Worth the visit. Continue down that same street along the Groton waterfront and you will come to Electric Boat. You can visit the Fairwater Store there to shop for caps and other submarine items.

New York City- Intrepid Air & Space museum. Home of the Intrepid and the far more important (to us) USS Growler. This is a Regulus missile diesel boat built during the 1950's. West side of New York in the 40's.

Hackensack, NJ (yes, that's right!) USS Ling. Sister ship of the Lionfish.

Philadelphia, Pa. USS Becuna. A Guppy conversion of a Balao fleet submarine. Paired up with Commodore Dewey's flagship, the USS Olympia, along the Delaware waterfront.

Baltimore, MD. USS Torsk, A Fleet snorkel conversion of a Tench class submarine.

BTW, I have photos of several of these locations on my personal SC Member Page

      Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut

Mystic Seaport in Mystic, Connecticut is worth a day's visit. Home of the Charles W. Morgan, the last wooden whaleship in the world.
