Opinions on Good Rotary Tools?

Was looking at the Dremel 400 XPR tool sets when I found quite a few poor reviews (on Amazon) of the 400 XPR model.

I found this particular set made by a company called Northern Tool+Equipment. Has anyone here used this set? Reviews look pretty good on it. It has a 36" flex shaft and a separate mini-rotary tool included with it. Looks like it would be good to use on my sub so thought I'd check and see if anyone here has any experience using this one.

I use a Dremel 10.8V

I use a Dremel 10.8V Lithium-ion Cordless rotary tool and I like it.

I don't use it in fancy ways, like a drill press or anything, though.

I have both...they are over 25 years old, and run like new... I've used them for Fiberglas, wood, plastic...for carvings and for models...

if you want something that lasts, these tools do.

I have had many rotary tools over the years but none have been more versatile and easy to work with than the Stylus. BD.

They look nice Big Dave, and that would be nice to have for many reason.


Will not fit a drill press by the looks of it however.

I have two myself at this point!
My Moto-tool and my brothers are both Canadian Tire Brands.
I have the flex shaft on mine and have it hanging from a nail on the ceiling.
I just got a drill press for my brothers Moto-tool on sale at Walleyworld for $40.
They do not fit all previously produced units, so check that it fits. This one for instance, fits my brothers, but not mine.


Nice to have that set-up. I can switch between the two and not worry about changing things....is that pampered or what?

You can do any job with the right tool, so I have lots of different grinding wheels and cutting bits for the different jobs and 1/32" and up drill bits.


I am set. I love the drill press. I have been practicing on sprue, and I am now ready to takle any job including my next project.


I think its important to know that it must be variable speed Moto-tool.


I know that having the flex shaft and the drill press has made it possible to do a lot new things.

We have had good luck

We have had good luck with the brand that Model Expo sells. I believe it is available with a flex shaft. They were on sale for around $25 a few weeks ago.
