HA HA HAH AH HAHAHH AHAH HA HAH HAH HAHH Im not so sure about that one Ivan! I can tell you that it is very cool back there. That door you always have to stop at... right on the other side of that is the top of the reactor core vessel. Its really crazy stuff. A guy actually stood watch there on the first boats. Oh the improvements we've made!

I remember the first time I visited her there were ice baracades on the sides of the hull by the reactor area. They are gone now. BD.
BTW- We could end up with our own glow in the dark mad Russian 8-ball.

                  DAVE,
About those so called "ice barracades" on the Nautilus hull. That is one of several bum dope items the museum crew used to put out about the Nautilus.
They were actually mounts for a large low frequency sonar array that the Underwater Sound Lab (USN-USL) had mounted on the hull. If memory serves me it was the BRASS II array. It was also carried on the USS Tigrone AGSS 419. It was used for low freq long range propagation studies. This was one of the last programs the Nautilus was involved in.
Speaking of ice I wish you Rochester folks would stop sending all your excess snow and ice to CT.

                        All,

Brass II! Hah! We used to refer to it as an old mattress frame when mounted on those two boats. All it really did was make Tigrone even uglier, and Nautilus look like a wannabe little sister! The thing looked a lot like an old WWII assault craft rocket launcher. Must have been noisy as hell, too!

I wouldn't expect to get too close to the NR-1 either. Last I remembered she was pretty warm if you know what I mean. Even if they pulled the reactor completely out you still wouldn't be able to go on board because of the machinery space. That would also keep it from being set up on shore like the X-1. Along with some other stuff I'm not at liberty to discuss.
