Masterpiece Models creates prototypes, props, models and exhibits. We’ve worked for some of the world’s most respected museums, companies, filmmakers and collectors. We work with painstaking attention to detail. Our scale models have as many working parts as possible. We hand paint each piece to exact specifications and use original blueprints wherever possible. Our concept department has decades of experience designing products using wood, plastic, silicon, rubber and composite materials.

          I was down to Groton

I was down to Groton yesterday and saw the finished model. Very impressive worksmanship!!!! Looks as if an enormous amount of custom work went into the interior. Just a few questions on the finished model:

I was curious why you elected to move the ship's control stationms (helm, rudders, diving planes) from the port side of the control room to the starboard side. Was this for better visibility when viewing the model?

Likewise with having the sonar panels face toward the centerline rather than outboard.

            This is just a guess

This is just a guess but, I think it may have been the disinformation gleened from certain official sources whom commisioned the work.

The helm control station has been on the port forward side of US nuclear submarines since the beginning (even back in the diesel boats). Just next to it curving onto the port side of the hull is the ballast control panel. Many of us have had tours through modern SSNs and SSBNs. You always get to see the control room on these tours. Also, there was a 637 class control room (USS Trepang??) on display at the Smithsonian for a couple of years. Hardly a secret (why would it be?); lots of photos of the helm station on the internet.

                diving station

Yes we moved it to the port side for better viewing it was a suggestion from the powers that be whom commissioned the model from us.
