Real modern Submarine question

Does a modern submarine of average size experience a "rocking" or "rolling" effect like a boat or ship while at the surface?
Decks awash or surfaced as it would be at Sea.

Yeah subs like to roll

Yeah subs like to roll pretty good on the surface. Only time I have experience rolling submerged was when we were at PD under huricane katrina. that was walking on walls crazy.

It was not uncommon to experience rolls down to 150 feet up North. Nuke boats with their round hull shape roll very easy. On the surface you get a lot of pitch action included.

You can certainly rock and

You can certainly rock and roll way deeper than 150'!! You always knew it was going to suck bad when you slowed at 400' and the 12-15 degree rolls started. As Diving Officer, I got sucked to the surface from rolls at that depth on U.S. Grant going to Puget Sound in '92!!! Every tank onboard was full of ballast water and I was looking for a bilge or to to use too!! Speed didn't help either!

Very strong storms such as

Very strong storms such as Hurricanes can cuase that kind of conditions. I had a few of them during my time in Subs from 89' to 96' both on SSN's and SSBN's. SSBN's have more of an effect of being sucked up to the surface due to the flat surface of the missile deck. I even had the experience of another fast attack sub making a flank speed run pass under the SSBN that I was on and at a seperation of 150 feet they made our boat rock a little due to the wake that they produce when they passed by.
