    I-19 Submarine rental?

I just received this E-Mail]Subj: sub search
Date: 7/17/03 6:53:52 PM Eastern Daylight Time
    From: rick@wahlstromphoto.com
    To]SubStuff@aol.com[/email]
    Sent from the Internet (Details)

I hope I am contacting Chris Proctor, if not I am sorry.
I'm a photographer in San Francisco and might have a project to do for X Games which requires a WWII Japanese Torpedo and a Japanese 1-19 Submarine or similiar. Would you consider renting your submarine for the photoshoot?
There seems to be a lack of kits on the market and the timeframe would be tight. There is a rental budget of $X,X.00 for both, total. I can be reached at 415 550 XXXX or reply via e mail. If you are interested in seeing my work, you can go to www.wahlstromphoto.com. I will be on location
tomorrow, Friday, but will be checking my voicemail. The models would appear in a National print Ad, will not be altered in anyway and can be insured for whatever is necessary.
    Thank you for your help.

I have no clue as to this person or anything else. I have enquired for further information on this "RENTAL" he speaks of.

I was also just wondering if anyone else has received such an E-mail concerning their sub.

(I put in X's in the E-mail such as for the Game company and for the $ amount)

    I received essentially the same

I received essentially the same e-mail via the "VicePresident" e-mail account.

I'll be replying to him later today, but essentially the naswer is going to be that for all practical purposes there currently are no running I-19 r/c subs. (unless someone is holding out on us!)

        I just got a reply

I just got a reply to my inquiry to the "Rental" and here it is]Chris, rental of the sub means that you would send it to me, I would put it on a dry white background and photograph it then place it digitally in a ocean setting on the computer. I would then ship it back to you unharmed and untouched.
Do you know of any torpedoes that are available to do the same thing with?
I think I have $1,000.00 to $1,500.00 available in rental fees. That is total for both.
        Does this answer your question?
        Thanks for the timely reply.

Sorry, but $1,000 wouldn't even come close to cover the loss of the sub.

        I said NO.

          Isn't that what insurance would

Isn't that what insurance would be for? The $1000 would be the rental fee.

            It seems to me that

It seems to me that for $1000 - $1500 it would be cheaper for him and much less nerve-wracking for you if he flew to where you live, took photos of the sub, and then flew back to San Francisco. With more than 7 days advance notice, I'm sure he'd come out ahead and you'd risk nothing. Maybe only offer to charge him $250 or so for rental if he flys out to meet you.

            Just a thought,

            Carl
