Human error.
All the others can be helped in some way by the human involved using common since and a little preventative measures in the first place. BD.

I definitely agree with BD.
I definitely agree with BD. Except with the possible exception of underwater entanglement, all of those areas are often due to something the the sub operator did not do.

It is still a no
It is still a no brainer Jeff.
Don't run in a place known for having a weed or entanglement problem.
That will eliminate most of that problem.
Enter at your own risk they say!!BD.

What about this one ...
What about this one ... the only thing that got in the way was the bottom.
So one thing missing from the list. Collisions.
I have been run over by a boat or two in my time. I recall seeing an Oscar taking out an Alfa .. yes that was a shot at you Kevin.

Alfa... Akula... Skipjack... There have been so many. But if they just wouldn't get in my way there wouldn't be any problems!

Caused by a loose battery in the foward compartment moving and knocking out the endcap. Operator error - yes! I should have secured the battery which was a heavy Ni-cad unit.
Diving crew - I got away with it cheaply at $150.

Besides, most of the paint transfer that I have to show on the OSCAR is on the SIDE of my boat, not the front. Right Rick????Kevin McLeod - OSCAR II driver

Entanlememts
Looking back at some of my own entangelments. I once ended up driving my sub into a food cart that was lying on it's side in 6 ft. of water I just didn't see it in time You know some times you just can't take your eyes off of your boats, when there running, not even for a second.
My other mishape was running into 25 Yrds. of fishing line and a 4 oz. sinker. Spent most of the day just trying to clear the props of that junk. The boat was surfaced at the time, had it been underwater, I not sure I would have been able to find it.
Sometimes, When someone asks about wanting to start to building a sub, I try to get them thinking about, where there going to run it and what are the conditions there. Most people have little information on it. thinking about what on the bottom and what's in the water can be just as important as picking which boat to build. My Best Wishes to all..... Mike Dory
