Engel Static Depth Controller - Do not understand

Jaut received the TAES Static Depth Controller upgrade kit from ENGEL.
I am useing the robbe Futabe FC-16 radio System in my 1/32 Fleet Boat and 1/32 Tyoe IX. I have the TAE pistons tanks installed and operating properly in the boats. Execlant trim and submerged running.

I wish to install the (Static Depth Controller) in both boats. Reading the instlation instructions for the unit into the boat is understood.
I do not understand the transmitter setup. As per instructions,
(" The TAES processes four different commands which must be directed individually. Therefore, it is advisable to control the TASE via a proportional shifter on the transmitter").

PLEASE What is a PRORTIONAL SHIFTER )?
I am not able to find any information in the robbe Futaba system Manual.
My system is set up with Twin stick , a Multi-Prop Modul/ Multi-Prop Decoder , Multi-Switch Modul / Multi-Switch Decoder. (2) two Linear poportional channels.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
