    S-Class information, books, ANYTHING?

    Folks,

I've finally decided that my next project will be a lovely British S-Class submarine and, as usual I like to research the subs I build. BUT I CAN'T FIND ANY REFERENCE MATERIAL FOR THE S-CLASS!!!!

I've got a magnificent book about the T-Class subs (which I'll build after this one) but I'm desperate for any historical information about the S-Class.

Can anyone point me in the right direction, at all?

I'm still trawling the internet bookstores, by the way.

    From an addicted "Bubble head"

      Here ya go, the BEST

Here ya go, the BEST site for S-boats and all the older submarine classes:

Pages of outstanding photos of the S-class, along with some descriptive write ups.
Also, you might want to get "Pigboat 39: An American Sub Goes to War" by Bobette Gugliotta.

Sorry, I just noticed you wanted the British S-class...nevermind

        Rich,

THANK YOU SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH FOR THAT LINK.
Now, my only problem is deciding on a pennant number and name. I love HMS Shark for the emblem, also HMS Shakespeare, Spiteful and Stonehenge for their names. HMS Stoic also looks good for her history and service record.

Hopefully there won't be any BIG differences between the three groups of S Class boats.

        Thanks again mate.

          Dave, somewhere in my files

Dave, somewhere in my files I have a few pictures of HMS Stoic that the late Bernie Wood built [and won a medal at the Model Engineering Exhibition a few years back] When I get five minutes I'll have a look and see what I can find for you. I also have some video footage of the model in action, I'll see if I can get it transferred to a dvd for you.

Hope that may help you out...

I'll be in touch soon as five minutes appears!

          Good luck,

          Rich

                Just ask! The S Class

                Dave

Just ask! The S Class is my favorite!

I have the model hulls, I have all the plans, I have literally HUNDREDS of photos I've collected over the years.

I am particularly enthralled with the way these boats were modified over the years. It makes them difficult to recognise as each boat morphed into something else.

Which one were you interested in doing?

I'll mail you a CD - no charge!

That's ok Mike. I wasn't able to use the last CD you sent, remember?

I've even located on Ebay (and won) a book called "One of Our Submarines" by Edward Young and printed in the fifties, about an S Class commander.

I'm also getting photos and drawings from other SubCommittee guys, one here in Australia.
