Soviet submarines red lower hull colour

    Hi,

I nearly finnished my Alanger Akula-I sub. The lower hull is painted in red. What is a good match for this red?

    Thanks,
    Thomas

      Wayne,

      I would suggest a color

      Wayne,

I would suggest a color like boxcar red or a caboose red from Floquil (enamel) or Polly Scale (acrylic). The important thing to remember do you like the color, we all see color a little differently anyway and who has access to "official Russian color chips anyway so like I said find a color that you like and go with it.

Krylon red primer is very close.

By the way and excuse my ignorance but who is "Alanger"?

          And, there is the variation

And, there is the variation of the scale effect. Question of where do you stop?
In my pesonal conversations with a group of Russian submariners, I realized we overthinking why they did some of the things they did. Often, they used what was handy and "close". That simple.
The Alfa had 3 different lower colors!! Later, they seemed to settle into a more conventional route.
Tim is correct. Krylon red primer is close enogh to use and not get laughed at . However, the shades you mentioned can work.
I would not put much more to this than one spent reading this link. It is that close.
Tim, Angler makes a series of small scall Russian submarines.
