WANTED : Sub Driver Technician to contract

    Hey all,

Well......I'm out of time, my VIIc/41 is without a Sub Driver and so is not going to sail for Regatta '08

I'm looking to pay someone to build me a Sub Driver. Is there anyone willing to take on this project as per a bunch of specs. I have ? I can provide drawings as to what I need and front all the money for materials, parts, etc., with the balance upon completion ...... any takers ..... anyone ?? I'm officially desperate. I demand high quality and am willing to pay for it. Hacks need not apply.

    Mylo - "SubDriver" refers directly

Mylo - "SubDriver" refers directly to the D&E WTCs that Mike Caswell sells. Do you need one of those assembled or do you need a BIG WTC built from scratch by someone?

      Tim,

Yes, I seem to swap the terms WTC and Sub Driver around. What I'm referring to is "Electronic Guts within a Tube (EGwT).

I've received a response and am in the process of getting things going.

Mylo - You might want to consider contacting Dave Merriman to build you a WTC for your boat. After all that's what he's in the business of doing. He's been doing it for a long time. I don't think I'd be off keel to say he's probably built more WTC's then any one man on this earth. He as the experence and skill your looking for. Best Wishes on your new assingment, stay safe..... Mike #1,

Got it...."Sub Driver" is officially gone from my vocabulary. My apologies.

Nobody has what I need, I've looked, unless I've overlooked a 6" x 36" WTC complete with electronic guts, motors, water pump, air pump, speed controller, radio, batteries etc., etc., .....etc. The largest I've come across is a 4" ....not big enough. (I sound like my X wife now.....great).

                  Mike #2,

David Merriman was the first guy I asked. He's busy, can't take it on.....something to do with working for some slave driver or something, I didn't catch the entire drift.

I'm currently in the process of working with another builder. It should work out well.

The D&E "sub-driver" for the Revell VII would by useless to Mylo lol..his boat is 1:25 scale.

I second Mylo's statement, NOBODY has what he needs! He will need a WTC with the diameter of a big piece of firewood haha. It probably isn't even all that appropriate to call his model a miniature.. He'll probably need to hire a crew to sail the thing once it is finished Its the Spruce Goose of uboat models! Though there is that monstrosity that "Horrible Harry" owns in CA.. I'm not sure what all is inside that one.

BdU is tired of hearing all your excuses Mylo! Dönitz insists that your boat be ready for patrol ASAP!

I'm just teasin ya Mylo.. Glad to hear you found someone to work on it for you.

                      Steve,

I don't know what the hell Caswell was thinking. Clearly the guy has not been paying attention to what I'm up to. What in the world am I going to do with some pissy little 2" Sub Operation Thing (SOT - Patent Pending). I looked all over his site thinking I missed the BIG 6". No such thing. Wasting my time, time I ran out of a week ago. Now I'm up at 01:00 AM looking for Lexan tubing..... One day I WILL have a life, just not today.

Mike ......wake the hell up. Shite, now I see why Merriman is the way he is.

But I have an excuse, I'm on VACATION! Living out of a suitcase! It's a tough life!

Driving from Charlotte, NC to Rochester, NY today!

A six inch WC eh? I'd suggest the plumber's shop. 6" pipe and end-caps, some stuff from that outfit Caswell Inc and you could cobble something up!

Didn't someone post something about molding end-caps without machining? I made some like that once and they worked like a charm.

You could cut a hole in the SD end-cap and another in a 6" pipe end-cap, then glue/bolt the two together. I reckon it might work!

                        (Have I just hung myself?)

                          Mylo,

You may want to contact Bob Dimmack of OTW directly. I know he can take his 110mm diameter dive module system and build one in a larger size....with hwhater size ballast tank you need. Other than dropping in the radio gear and battery, they're ready to run.

Does the tubing have to be transparent?

If not you could use PVC tubing, much cheaper than lexan (polycarbonate) or acrylic, and it's nice stuff to work with- machines very well.

Do you mean something like this?

Was a D&E 3 MOD 2. Chopped the ballast section and mated it to a 2.5" lexan tube to fit the old GATO (TORSK??) better. Kept the bulkhead and related mechanism in place, just relocated the supply.

I have some other modifications in the works for the drive space...
