    Seawolf - Hull colors

Every picture I have of Seawolf models (including God's, AKA D.M.Jn's., fleet) shows the lower hull painted with red lead oxide yet all the publications I have which show the real boat seem to indicate that she is the same anthracite grey color acoustic tiles all over, like the Virginia class. Which is correct? A red lower hull is sure brighter but is it correct? All help appreciated.

    The Seawolf and the Connecticut

The Seawolf and the Connecticut were painted red on the bottom in the beginning. The Navy decided to go to an all black paint scheme for all the boats in the fleet, the next time in dry dock the Seawolf, Connecticut and the 688's were painted all black. The Virginia's were all black from the start. The Jimmy Carter was painted all black from the start as well because the changes made to it delayed the launch from the original date and was after the all black went into effect.
So either paint scheme for the Seawolf or Connecticut would be appropriate, If you paint black on top red on the bottom it's the early version, if all black it's the current version.
    Hope this helps.
