Election Notice - Request for Candidates

    Fellow members,

(this is a duplicate that can be found in the "Announcements" forum)

The Election Committee announces that an election for the Offices of President, Vice President/Secretary, and Treasurer, of The Subcommittee will be held later this year.

The Election Committee, per its charter in the Articles of Incorporation, is now requesting Candidates for Office, from the membership.

If you or someone you know is interested in being a Candidate for one of the three Offices, please contact The Chairperson of the Election Committee – Jeffrey LaRue. Jeff can be reached by e-mail at jeffrey.larue@hp.com or by post at 920 Indian Creek Lane, Crownsville, MD 21032 USA.

Nominations will require a formal nomination request and a nomination “second,” by e-mail or post. Nomination by telephone is not acceptable.

All Candidates for Office are expected to be members in good standing with The SubCommittee. All persons elected to Office are expected to remain in good standing for the duration of their term in office.

Ideally, each member who wishes to run for Office will have access to the Internet as that is a principle means for the officers to communicate and transact SubCommittee business. Candidates are also required to submit a short write-up that describes who they are, their qualifications, and why they are running for office. These writes-up must be submitted and received by the Election Committee no later than July 6, 2008 in order that they can be published in the September 2008 issue of the SubCommittee REPORT.

Election Ballots will be mailed as part of the membership renewal process and are expected to be mailed around mid-October 2008.

All who wish to have their vote count in this election must (a) be a member in good standing for the 2008 membership year, and (b) have their ballot received by the Membership Chairman, Don Osler before December 30, 2008.

    Folks,

    The Election Committee thought that

    Folks,

The Election Committee thought that it would be a good idea to post a section of the Articles of Incorporation that lists the responsibilities of the members of the Executive Committee for those considering a position as an officer with the SubCommittee:

ARTICLE 3: SubCommittee Officers and Officials

3.1 The President of The SubCommittee is the Chairperson of the Executive Committee and the executive for the administration of The SubCommittee, subject to the direction of the Executive Committee.

3.2 The Vice President/Secretary of The SubCommittee shall be responsible for keeping the records of The SubCommittee, including the PPM. The Vice President/Secretary shall also be responsible for keeping records of the meetings and actions of the Executive Committee and make such records available to the membership. If necessary, the Vice President/Secretary may act as the President of The SubCommittee if the President is unable to perform that office.

3.3 The Treasurer of The SubCommittee has charge and custody of all of the funds of The SubCommittee, as directed by the Executive Committee and the PPM. The Treasurer shall establish and follow good accounting and expenditure controls and shall make full disclosure of all financial dealings of The SubCommittee.

3.4 No person shall serve in a specific SubCommittee office for more than two consecutive three year terms. This provisions shall not prevent such a person from being elected to serve in another office or in serving in that same office after it has been held for at least one term by another person.

3.5 If an officer resigns or becomes unable to serve, the Election Committee, after conferring with the remaining members of the Executive Committee, shall select a replacement to serve until the time of the next regular election of officers.

3.6 No officer of The SubCommittee shall receive compensation for that service; however, officers may receive reimbursement, in a manner specified in the PPM, for expenses incurred in the performance of their duties.

3.7 The President, the Vice President, and the Treasurer shall appoint an Editor, who shall be responsible for the production and publication of The SubCommittee's publication, which shall be called The SubCommittee REPORT.

3.8 The President, the Vice President, and the Treasurer shall appoint the Membership Chairman of The SubCommittee, who shall be responsible for the handling of matters dealing with membership in The SubCommittee.

3.9 No officer or appointed official shall be personally liable for the debts, liabilities, or other obligations of The SubCommittee.

    ARTICLE 4: The Executive Committee

4.1 The Executive Committee of The SubCommittee shall consist of the President, the Vice President, the Treasurer, the Editor of The SubCommittee REPORT, and the Membership Chairman.

4.2 Under the leadership of the President, the Executive Committee shall consider and decide on matters affecting The SubCommittee as needed. With the sole exception of changes to the Policies and Procedures Manual, decisions of the Executive Committee shall be on the basis of majority vote.

4.3 The Executive Committee shall have the power to appoint whatever other necessary officials and committees needed for the good operation of The SubCommittee and shall also have the power to assign duties, modify duties, and terminate duties and appointments as needed.

      We've had some folks ask

We've had some folks ask the question as to how we are to know whether or not the candidate being nominated will accept the nomination.

      An excellent question!

We're going to request that the person making the initial nomination first contact the individual to find out if they are willing to run for office. Let's not blind-side folks here!

One other note, please remember that a 'second' to all nominations is required......

      -many thanks,

        Another question that occasionally comes

Another question that occasionally comes up is whether or not non-U.S. members can hold one of the elected positions within the SubCommittee.

Absolutely! Yes! Being able to articulate a non-U.S. view as part of running the SubCommittee is very much needed.

Tied to this question is one about location in general. There is not a need to be physically near any of the officers. (....that kind of came out weird.....) To the best of our knowledge all of the work conducted by the officers can be done through electronic communications (e.g. telephone, e-mail, IM, etc.).

So if you have been considering making a run for office, please do so!

        -many thanks,

The Election Committee is putting together an outline of topics what they will request each candidate address. Once the outline is ready, we'll get it out to the candidates.

Keep it coming guys. President is a lot of fun (plus some challenges ) and it looks good on your resume at work if you are poohbah for a group of 800 people.

                          Folks,

A gentle reminder that candidates are still being accepted for officers in the SubCommittee. The deadline for both the nominations and candidate write-ups is just a few weeks away (July 6th), so if you are considering running for office, please speak up!

I also need to note that as of today, we do note have any candidates for the position of treasurer. Our current, excellent treasurer, Bill Vanderslice, cannot run for re-election due to the term-limit clause in the Articles of Incorporation. If you or a member that you know is interested in assuming the duties of treasurer, please contact us right away!

                            The Election Committee

                            Fellow SubCommittee members,

The Election Committee received official, confirmed notice last night that VP candidate Kevin Price was withdrawing from the election due to personal reasons.

This, in effect, means that we are left with one candidate for President and one for VP...unless the write-in votes select different candidates.

The official election announcement will not be made until the close of voting at midnight December 31st, however the candidates standing for office are:

                            President - Myles Yancey
                            Vice President - Chris Campbell
