    U-Boat Plans

    Hey,

Anybody know where I can get my hands on a good set of U-Boat plans for a type IXC and type IIA ? The most crucial part for me are the hull cross sections, the Fritz Kohl plan set for the VIIc/41 (U995) that I did were exceptional in this regard and I'm looking for the same in these other types. It doesn't matter what scale, I can get them resized to 1:25, my scale of choice.

    Thanks,

    Mylo

    Hi Mylo,

    For Type IXC plans,

    Hi Mylo,

For Type IXC plans, the Fritz Köhl plans are still the best. A set can be purchased here:

For the Type II, we're kind of limited. There is a [i]Vom Original Zum Modell] book, and it does have a set of reduced-sized Köhl plans in it, but I have never seen the full-sized planrolle available. I did scan the plans from the book and they came out okay. Given that, the most comprehensive set of Type II plans available today are the ones done by Gerry Beck and sold by Taubman Plan Service (now a part of Loyalhanna Dockyard). I have been using these plans almost exclusively for my Type II project. They are not as extensive or accurate as the Köhl plans, but they're very good. To find these plans go here:

.....and do a search on "Type II". The product ID you want is GB-793.

      Jeff,

I've got a type II (variants A and D) plan set from:

....but it's lacking in the hull cross section detail. There are some "body lines" as they are referred to, but unlike the Kohl plans, each and every rib of the Pressure hull and Outer hull are not detailed.

Just encase you don't find what you want

I used these plans - there aren't any cross sections but it has some great details of the real boat. I took it to kinkos and scale it up to 1:20

          Mylo,

I suspect (guess) that those are a different set? How many sheets in the set? The Beck plans have four sheets and include the hull cross sections. The following is the hull cross section drawing from sheet number 3 of the set:

Also included are the so-called 'waterline' cross sections, the horizontal, plan-view set of lines as well.

Also the Beck plans cover variants A, B, C, and D.

            The French navy archive website

The French navy archive website has free plans for several German subs, including the Type IXC.

Their Type IXC plans appear to be original German construction plans, and show profile, hull stations, and many cross sections.

            Hope this helps,

            Carl
