    Hi Bob
Recently purchased a tiny underwater camera.
If you fancy a laugh you might like to have a look at this...

The old sub is going well.

      Jeff - does Bob's system

Jeff - does Bob's system allow for hovering like a piston tank? A couple of shots look like the sub is just hanging there!

I also love the helicopter / sub views.

        That fly by shot at

That fly by shot at the end is probably the coolest footage I've seen of a model sub.

I like the O class, kind of a "missing link" between U-Boats and Nuke subs. That looks like a great looking / running sub.

          Tim,

The piston will allow for hovering as long as the boat is well trimmed and you are using an electronics control module that lets you precisely set the piston. This control is necessary given the changing water densities that we run in.

              Oberon

              Hello all,

I live about 2 hours north of an Oberon that is a museum piece in Sydney Harbour. HMAS Onslow is a fantastic museum piece to study.

I can get info on her if people need it..

              regards,

Are OTW incorporating piston tanks into their dive modules now?

I was under the impression they used a water pump system which pumped water into a tank which vented into the dry compartments of the cylinder.

It's as accurate as any other water pump system, but isn't proportional like a servo or encoder based piston tank.

                    Andy,

OTW is still using their excellent pump-based system.

The dive module that I use in my OTW Seehund is a custom module that I built that incorporates an Engel 825ml piston.

...and I see that I didn't fully answer Tim's question. The OTW dive module will allow you to hover the boat, but it does take some finesse in pumping and blowing. The speed at which the pump moves water does allow you a fairly good degree of control.
