    Thread inadvertantly deleted

In moving the recent International Dues Thread it was inadvertantly deleted - my fault- I take full responsibility. Jeff and Bob are checking with the web provider to see if it is available on the backup. Again - it was my fault.

    I'd also like to offer

I'd also like to offer my apology to John in that he took my poorly worded reply to his post the wrong way.

I tried to make a call to arms for all members to chip in and help and mentioned that most of the folks who had participated in the thread were doers - (there were one or two I didn't know). That wasn't aimed at John at all. I should have saved the thought for a new thread, but it was at the top of my frustration list at the time and it popped out. As John mentioned, he has done a lot for the SC and for quite some time.
I locked down the thread to avoid more piling on until we had some good news for international members. I probably shouldn't have done that either. We've been looking at trying to get a CD version of the SC to save postage for international members that also provides copy protection. I didn't want to raise any hopes and then have it fall though.

Anyway - I'm sorry for my clumsy handling of this whole thing. Isn't my first goof, but hopefully is my last - at least for awhile. Mea culpa to John and the members.

      Well, webmaster Bob checked with

Well, webmaster Bob checked with his friend Richard at the office who originally set up this forum for us. Richard said that unless someone had manually performed a backup before I pushed the button, the thread was lost. There was no backup done so it was indeed deep-sixed. To prevent this from happening again (besides keeping me away from the control switch) we are seeing about having software installed that does the backup automatically before anything is deleted by accident or on purpose. Once again - big apologies to John and the membership.

        Any chance of looking on

Any chance of looking on one of the archive sites? I looked on web.archive.org and it only goes to June of last year. I know there are a couple more but I can't remember them.

              Tim,

Those two links give me pages 1 and 4 of that thread. I printed them as PDFs and also did a save as source html.

For some reason it looks like Google didn't capture the other pages. (go figure)

So if we can figure out a way to make the pages easily visible in the forum, we get part of this thread back up.

Going off on a slight tangent here, I have been contacted by John (Slats) and asked to find out why he is unable to login He should still be a registered user, even though he is no longer a financial member. Can this please be looked into

                  Justin,

                  Good question.

                  I took a look

                  Justin,

                  Good question.

I took a look at John's forum account and is was not active. This usually occurs when someone changes either their password or e-mail address and they do not re-activate the account with the e-mail sent to them (to do the re-activation). There have also been occasions when the re-activation e-mail doesn't get to the member in question. (gotta love the Internet!)

All that aside, I manually forced the account to be active again, so he should be able to login.

                      Jeff thanks for the correction

Jeff thanks for the correction of my account.

However, I have not changed my e-mail or password recently so it is weird and I must say somewhat suspect that not only does a 1,900 odd view / 77 post / 5 page thread get "inadvertently" wiped but so too does the posting rights of the author of the "troublesome" thread.

Tim apology accepted. I won't be a financial member anymore and I will be steering newcomers here in Australia to other sources. I won't be posting anymore on the subject. Lets leave it at that.

                      John
