After Action Report : 2007, 1000 Island Cottage Regatta

Well the 3rd annual 1000 Island Cottage Sub Regatta has come and gone. I am proud to report that it was a rousing success with 20 submarines and 10 skippers in attendance. This year the Regatta went international with the attendance of Crazy Ivan from the US.

The skippers from left to right are]http://www.bcliffe.com/subs/CottageRegatta07/top01.jpg[/img]

Truthfully I was a little worried about this year, as it was scheduled late in the year, which means questionable weather, and low water. In fact this year is the lowest I have seen the water in decades. The good news it is also the lowest I have seen the weeds in years as well.

The forecast for the 2 day event was overcast and rain. Luckily the weather man was 50% wrong. Saturday the weather was perfect, sunny and a mild day ... in fact I wasn't the only one swimming that day.

Sunday it was raining and overcast ... however that didn't stop us, for some reason we didn't care if our submarines got wet. Although it has been requested that I install an awning for next year.

This thread will continue in subsequent posts per skipper, I haven't got to the video yet so I'll save that for last. Enjoy!

    Cheers

    First up is a look

First up is a look at Brian's scratch built Albacore. This thing is amazing ... Brian wanted to learn how to vacuum form styrene and he took on this project. I am ashamed to say I didn't take any photo's of the internals. It's amazing pickle jars and bicycle tubes.

      Next is Bob's yellow rocket

Next is Bob's yellow rocket of a submarine .. Merriman has now named this sub "the yellow lawn-dart" for obvious reasons.

I nearly drowned laughing so hard when I went to recover this one.

With so many flying sub's around I couldn't resist getting some formation flying shots.

Ted's ROV, was doing it's best to capture some cool footage, look for this posted at a later date.

Here everyone is packed up and ready to go home.

The regatta went off as well as I could have expected, and I really need to say thank you to my parents and wife ... while I was busy in the water they were cooking and serving up drinks.

So how do you measure the success of a Regatta. On the way home in the van Sundany night both of my kids were using a new word.

                          "Dive,Dive,Dive!"

Stay tuned for video as I get it compiled and posted to the web.

                          Cheers
