I meant to ask about

I meant to ask about those 'steam fish' ..the ones which leave a neat white line trailing behind (how inconvenient is that for a sub skipper!).

Am I right in thinking that the steam somehow drives the propellers of the torpedo - I mean it isn't a jet of steam that actually propelles it along ...It's one of those things that just never gets asked.

Steam Fish

The steam was generated inside the torpedo and drove a turbine. The exhust steam exited through a tube, run inside the drive shafts, and out of the end of the propeller shafts.
So you're right. It wasn't an early version steam rocket.
But you gotta admit, scaling up one of those CO2 driven, model torpedoes, sure sounds like a neat idea. At least, it looks neat in a pond.

Oh yeah, I've seen gas driven model fish.
Has anyone made a scale working CO2-driving contra props version torpedo yet

I haven't seen any, yet. The only counter-rotating props, I've seen, were on electric fish.
