    Can anyone identify this boat?

Bob Dimmack emailed me a bunch of photos that were possibly S Class boats British WWII. But someone suggested that this one was a UBoat.

Can anyone give a positive ID on this one? It looks like its just come out of the dockyard, brand new! Civilian workers all over it.,

    Here you go Mike. I

Here you go Mike. I reduced the size of the image. The one on that site was too big (14 MB) for us to handle so I made a copy and reduced it to a more manageable size If you click on it, it becomes quite large.

      Sure looks like a Royal

Sure looks like a Royal Navy sub to me. She has the typical casing of the S-class, but with no obvious stern tube....so I'm thinking one of the first or second group of S-class boats. There is also the RN navy jack flying from the stern mast and has the usual foremast with the crown(?) on top.

        Looks like an S class

Looks like an S class at launch.
"HM Submarines in camera" says that the 1942/43 programme of 17 S class subs all had a 4" gun rather than stern tubes.
This maybe pins it down a bit.

          I agree, a Brittish S

          I agree, a Brittish S class.
But have a look at this

          http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image ... _Scout.jpg

looks similar to your photograph but sea scout is listed as a Group 3. The history of the S class development is complicated!! (probably because of the two different war arena's, hence operational requirements, eg the larger 4 inch gun was favoured in the middle eastern arena - the overall added weight of this was offset by the loss of the external rear tube.)

            The bow diving planes folded

The bow diving planes folded up with those anti-fouling cables attached to them and of course the rest of the casing says it's an "S" class British Sub. Not to mention, of course all those sailors wearing British uniforms, Might give us a clue Best Wishes Mike Dory
