    SSBN (Ohio class) text font..

    Hi

I'm sure this has been up once or twice before, but does anyone know which font is the correct font for the number on the sail on the Ohio class subs? (Might as well get'em right)

    Thanks in advance, guys!

    45 degree USA Gothic. Woodland

45 degree USA Gothic. Woodland Scenics has the best selection, dry transfers, but work very well.

        or you could leave them

or you could leave them off. The boat only has its numbers on for the first sea trials and when pier side and those are just magnets we slap on the hull.

          Nuke power,
          Are the numbers still

          Nuke power,
Are the numbers still painted sheet metal with magnets on the back or did the Navy go with sheet type magnets? Also I thought putting the hull numbers on in port went by the wayside after 9/11. I know the base in Groton stopped putting the hull numbers on, instead they put the boats banner on the access brow.
          Robse,
If you want to have hull numbers for your boat you could make up the numbers say out of styrene sheet and use them as a template for location on the sail. Drill holes and epoxy some steel round bar flush with the outside of the sail and paint over it to keep the rust a bay, then epoxy small magnets to the back of the numbers and put them in place when in port so to speak.
          Just a thought.

            Thanks, all! :-)

Silent Runner: Thanks! Now I can tick that off my ”to do”

Hakkikt: Yes, well.. I guess I run my scopes up to long..

Nuke Power: Ok! That explains why I found that the numbers move around just a bit on the MANY photos I have studied! Though a clever way to be able to disguise the identity, it never struck my mind.. cool!

Boss Subfixer: Yes, good idea! I use magnets for many other things, so those I’ve got. It’ll sure look cool and realistic, if the numbers were of the removable type!
