Im currently stationed on the USS Rhode Island. That is the SSBN 740 a trident missile boat. My current Capt is Cdr Moises Del Toro III. He has seved on both fast boats and boomers, has a masters degree in engineering, Served under the joint chiefs of staff and i believe has also served as an instructor at the naval colege. The man is very sharp and very knowledgeable.
I was asked if i could do an interview with him. The thing is I have no idea what to ask him considering I already know the guy. Its a chance for you guys to get to know who he is or even ask somequestions that you have been pondering in your head about what its like to be a capt and so on. He is basicly the president of one of the most powerful countries in the world just by Commanding the boat.

Hmm, suggestions...
"Have you ever encountered Russian Submarines"?
"Have you ever noticed a Russian Submarine tracking your boomer?" Or are they totally inactive nowadays and stay close to their bases?
And of course what his task is, whether he has lots of paperwork to do and leaves most of the commanding to his Chief of officer?
I'm sure other people would come up with better questions, but I can't think of more at the moment. I'd for sure like to know the answer to these questions though.

Okay, I'll chime in with
Okay, I'll chime in with some good interview questions:- - What motivated you to become a submariner?
- Having served on both fast attacks and boomers, how does the daily life of a submariner differ between the two?
- What do you see as the principle challenges facing the enlisted submariner in today's Navy?
- What do you see as the principle challenges facing the officers serving on submarines?
- There is a perception amongst some that life aboard a submarine at sea is very boring. What can you tell us about daily life while at sea?
- What is the most rewarding part of being a part of the community of submariners?

Here you go Kevin,
Depending on how long your Captain has been in the service,
1. How has the environment on the subs changed most from the Cold War days compared to now?
2. Was the cold war environment higher paced than now, and if so, has that affected the rate of promotion in the sub service? Example, during war time, officers have more opportunity to gain rank quicker than during peace time. So did the end of the Cold War affect that.
3. Follow up: Is the Iraq war or the War on Terror affecting the opportunities for advancement now?
4. You said he captained both attack boats and boomers, as the captain of the boat, was it hard to change mindset from hunting and actively looking for Russian, or enemy subs, to now staying away from them and trying not to be noticed?
5. What's the most challenging part of conducting operations/orders (the assigned mission of the boat) on an attack sub?
6. What's the most challenging part of conducting operations/orders (the assigned mission of the boat) on a boomer?
7. Can you tell us about any incidents that may have caused an international political problem, either with your boat or your crew, and how did you diffuse it as captain. (Annecdote)
I'll try to think of more.

Fantastic! Looks like you have some great questions to ask the boss man. Unless you are very good at taking notes, I recommend that you tape record interview.
Also - try to get a photo of him and your boat for the SCR article. Send directly to Pete at Editor@subcommittee.com.
Be sure to remind us and we'll send you an extra copy of the magazine to give to him when it is printed. His grandkids will love it someday! Their grandpa is a hero.

WW II was the dawn
WW II was the dawn of submarines, the cold war saw modern subs come of age. I would love to understand what types of things we shall see in the future.
Are they going to continue with current hull designs, or create smaller hulls for specialized purposes.
Will there be a "next generation" for hull design...
I hope he does not have to shoot you after giving these types of answers.
Of course I'd love to know the first sub he saw, and why he chose the submariner path (same goes for you Nuke).

What are you talking about?
What are you talking about? Going back to New London? You actually like a muck-bottom pond better than the one in Carmel? What are you, Canadian or something. They wouldn't let you back into the sub base anyway, Teskey, you're a foreigner.
