    U-673 : Forward platform support column(s)

I need some help on U-673 'flak-trap' boat.

I would like to know the number/position of support column(s) for the forward gun platform on U-673.

    On site:

the picture seems to show multiple columns supporting the forward gun platform. I cannot really tell the orientation, but there may be 2 side-by-side, or possibly 3 in a triangular formation?

However, other pictures (mostly from the side) and a 1:400 kit of U-673 show only a single support column.

    Can anyone please help me?

    ambitious undertaking Glenn...

looks like 3 in a triangular shape to me. I wonder if Jeff LaRue has any better photos?

    good luck on the project.

      Hi Sam,

Yes, that's what I thought exactly... 3 in triangular shape (according to this picture). But all other pics/graphics I've seen only show 1 large column. That's why I am confused about this...

Sorry, but I do not know Jeff LaRue... what is his username or contact information?

      Regards,

Heh...Glenn - Jeff is the current editor (temporary) of the SC Report, former past VP of the club, and knows lots and lots of stuff about u-boats.

Just whistle round here and ask a u-baot question...Jeff will come!

jeffrey.larue@hp.com is the way to reach him...

          I'd

          ...did someone mention U-boats?

I'd need to search my set of books to see if I have any different or better photos handy, but IIRC Sam is correct...three support legs.

It's really ashame that better photo documentation hasn't been preserved for these U-boat one-offs.

            Jeff (and all)... any pics

Jeff (and all)... any pics are good...

When I did U-625 I only had 2 good pics from my dad... taken from the Sunderland on the day the sub was sunk, no less!

2 pics of U-673... one zoomed in shows 37mm single-barrel cannon with shield on foredeck (same as rear). Another one from side shows different 37mm cannon. And another blurb of text saying it had a Flakvierling 38 (quad 20mm) on the front. Apparently it was a testbed for AA configurations. So I have alot to choose from.
