    Looking for a thread...

I remember there was a thread a while ago about whether lead-acid batteries are suitable to be run in the wet. Does anybody know where this is located? Don't know if it was deleted when the forum software was changed...

    Don't know what happened to

Don't know what happened to the thread, but I run SLA batteries wet. No issues. You may want to put some grease or RTV on the contacts.

      Are we talking about lead-acid

Are we talking about lead-acid batteries like motorcycle, auto, and golf cart batteries (not gel cells) or is there some other kind?

I use gel cells - no sealing necessary except for a little RTV on the terminals.

          Thanks for the response!

          About sealing

          Thanks for the response!

About sealing the terminals, would epoxy do the job as well?

            I wouldn't, epoxy is too

I wouldn't, epoxy is too permanent. Stick with something that can be cleaned off easily.

              i have used the three

i have used the three following items on my gel cells:

vaseline (applied every time it goes in the water)
bathtub caulking/rtv gasket material (applied every time wire is attached to terminal)
tooldip (applied every time wire is attached to terminal)

                I remember Dave M telling

I remember Dave M telling me about the vasaline treatment. i did the plasti-dip on the ends of my nmih and water over time still got to one of the cells. its good stuff but you cant remove it very easly for inspection of
leaks or corrison so i think i will just treat it with vasaline next time.
