    New Photo Uploading Problem

There appears to be a problem uploading material via the PostImage photo system. I successfully uploaded about a dozen items yesterday onto the Wayne's Russian sub site when the system suddenly stopped working. Still does not work today. It "goes through the motions", but the image URL never appears in the post. ALL items were under 1 Mb, so it's not the size. I was trying to upload some Soviet submarine plans & photos of Zulu & Hotel classes onto Wayne's website.

    Any ideas? Thanks!

[b]IMPORTANT UPDATE] I have now successfully loaded photos of the NR-1 onto the research vehicle site.

Does this mean we have exceeded storage capacity for the Russian sub site??

UPDATE On Wednesday the 27th, initially I again could not post photo material to PostImage at Wayne's Russian site, then later it started to accept photo posts again. So it's a flaky failure, the worst kind, the sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't kind of game.
I know, maybe PostImage is a Microsoft product! Remember, their motto is]"It's not a bug, it's a feature!"[/i]

Update 2 (The Wrath of Tom)-Fri, Dec. 29 In today's episode, once again I could not post photos today, even though I was logged in. BUT, by logging out of the SC site & then immediately back in again, I could now post photos. Is this great software or what?

Update 3 At this point, nothing works in terms of posting anything additional in the way of photos. I have not been able to post anything since last Friday, despite 3 independent log ons over three days. Wasted another 2 hours trying.

As Dr. McCoy used to say, "It's worse than that, it's dead, Jim!"

    Seems to be working ok

Seems to be working ok now, Tom. The PostImage.org feature can be quirky once in awhile. It is the only one that has the feature where we can add it into the forum software though, which makes it TONS easier to get photos posted. Most of the time it works ok.

If it's driving you nuts though, the other option is to use PhotoBucket or one of the other free image hosting sites for your own posts and deal with the couple of extra steps. (Hit the Img button, paste in the URL of the photo, then hit the Img button again.)

      I don't use Postimage anymore.

I don't use Postimage anymore. They just don't work half the time. Images are often down from your posts and on subpirates I got sick and tired of emails asking what has been done with poster's images.

So I removed the plugin and told everyone to use www.photobucket.com easrier to use than building a sub model. Works all the time and no upload problems or link problems. Just copy and paste to your thread and it's done. and it's free.

I don't know now how many times I have brought this up on both boards and yet people continue to use the iffy at best postimage. Just trying to help.

        If it wasn't for PostImage,

If it wasn't for PostImage, there would be a lot fewer photos posted. It's only a sporatic issue - AND the photos haven't "temporarily disappeared" in a couple of months. At least they always come back.

However, if anyone is getting gas over it - the best idea is to use Photo Bucket as I suggested earlier- at least until we get our new site up where members can store their photos right here.

            Tim,
Please tell me that we are going to automatically transfer images that have already been posted on PhotoImage over to the new system. I really do not feel like going through this again. I find I now have to continually relog onto this site just to post anything (and yes, I do check the automatic log-in box). I just spent 30 minutes editing my Julliett post to add more photos, and when I was all done, it told me I couldn't edit it!! had to relog in & do it over. This is growing so wearisome...

Final Note Last time we switched web software, we managed to wipe out about 5 years of SC history. ALL of the pictures from past regattas & model photos, all of the written material by Ken Hart & Marshall Clark, among others, lots of information, gone! Flushed down the toilet. Yes, the software is marginally better, but we lost an enormous amount of our history. I sincerely hope this doesn't happen again with the research material we have accumulated since the last software swap.

            Tom

Addendum-Friday night Well, I just spent about 2 hours posting a grand total of 8 new items on Wayne's Russian site using PhotImage. Now it appears to have again locked up, won't accept anything. In order to post about 45 items over the past week, I've spent almost a day and a half total at my computer.

Addendum-Saturday morning PhotoImage remains unresponsive. I've now wasted way too much time. Despite the fact I have lots more material, no more images from me. Life is too short.

              please note your membership webpages

please note your membership webpages are a good place to host photo's.

then the photo can be referenced in postings same way by means of it's URL.

Do we need those other sites at all ??

posting all pictures externally to the SC website is a sure way to loose that
              information in the long run.
All it takes is a change in URL structure by those posting sites. that will invalidate all references to pictures on that site.
Or a site going broke, or just plain cleanups....

It would seem to me that a popular posting sites such as PhotoBucket or Photo Image would really lose out changing URLs. Evryone would be affected an go away.

If not, my worst fears are confirmed. I am wasting my time as are many others posting photos & research material here.

                  Tom,
You might try using ImageShack: http://www.imageshack.us/

I have had problems with a couple of forums posting pictures too. It seems that after pasting one url and going back to get another, when I try to return to paste the second, the whole thread disappeared. Very very frustrating. I found that I had to submit the post then go back and edit it to get the other pictures in.

Thanks, Jim. I'm actually sitting on a large number ( >60 )of color, high resolution exterior & interior shots of the Russian Julliett class boat. However, after spending the better part of 2 days trying to post a variety of items (Russian & Fleet boat material) and getting maybe 40 items posted in 2 days, I'm done! My family is angry at me spending so much time on the computer, and I don't blame them. I spent an hour and 45 minutes last night alone trying to post just two items! Got one & not the other posted. No interest at this time in trying to get yet another system working for me to post. I'm just too frickin' tired & discouraged.

Thanks, Jeff. I've given up; I spent way too much time already. It appears to be mostly a PhotoImage problem, but the SC site will occasionally inform me (while I'm newly logged in and editing on of my own posts to add photos) that I don't have permission to edit my own material. Go figure.

I'm trying to find another site such as SteelNavy or Warships that will host my photos.

Tom. this took me less than a minute to post from my free album at Photobucket. You must being having problems with your PC or Mac.

All of Merriman's Cabal reports are posted by me. Somethimes 12 at a shot twice a day. All I do is upload them to photobucket and copy and paste the provided links to the posting.

If your having PC or Mac problems it has nothing or lttle to do with the sites the may host your images.

Send them to me. I'll make an Album for you and post the darn things for you. Really.

                          Just trying to help.

                            P.S. If you right click

P.S. If you right click on the 23 photo and select view image you will get a larger picture too.

I could alos upload your images to my personal server. One owned and paid for by me. This way there is no chance in hell of them being lost. My server is always running.

                            Just a thought.
