      I bought a Belknap hull

I bought a Belknap hull from Upshaw many years ago. The hull was good, the delivery time and communications were awful. He charges top dollar for very poor service. He should either be up front with people (which would cause him to go out of business rapidly, in my opinion), or just fold his tent.
I wouldn't (and haven't) wasted any more of my time and money on a flim-flam man. BUYER BEWARE.

Hopefully, you guys will get your wish and Lee will find another way make money, instead of engaging in the blood sport that is supplying model parts. I have been telling him for years, as a friend, that it is simply not worth it - he works for slave wages, no benifits, lives in a crappy part of town, and after putting 60-70 hours a week in, year after year, he gets this kind of crap from members of an organization he has supported since its inception with recruiting and product. All this to be called a con artist - even though he delivers a good quality product, but sometimes takes too long. Of course, you don't hear from the hundreds of guys who get their products on time and in good shape.

Maybe you agree with the guy the put up that website - he wrote an email suggesting that Lee should, among other things, commit suicide. All this over Model Parts!

Why would anyone put up with this garbage? When you find that you are unable to get the part you need, or you have to pay thousands to build a model, maybe you will remember him more fondly. Or not. I could really care less...

          I have four scale ship

I have four scale ship yard hulls. One I bought second hand three from lee himself. All of them delivered as promised and on time. I am sorry some of you have had a bad time. Over the last many years Lee has always kept his word with me.

Thanks Lee for supplying the things you do to the hobby world.

          Joseph.

Does this mean that the Scale Shipyard is out of business? Or just that Lee forgot to renew his domain name registration and a vengeful customer took it over?

Whether you like Lee or not, I don't like the idea of losing another vender from this hobby, and I hope he's not given up and closed up shop.,,

Thanks, Michael. I had missed that the disgruntled customer's website had an extra 's' in the name.

                  Hello,

I have been a long time SubCommittee member, about 8 years now and there is always some sort of dilemma with vendors. Most of our dealers are a "one man show", they do this on the side in addition to a real world job, as a way to help promote the hobby we enjoy. Lee, may esclusively work in Scale Ship production for his income, but he could've easily thrown the towel in many times, but he has kept on and some how has been with us over 20 years. We have to respect our vendors who provide any service, they produce the things the average guy can't, they share their talent with us. I have had 3 of Lee's hulls and plenty of parts come through my hands, and I do agree it may take some time, but here is my complaint level... ( ) None. This is a hobby, lets just build and enjoy and grow.

Lee said my hull would be here in about 7 days. 7 days latter the hull was in my hands.
I went to that guys site and looked at the pictures of his hull. I could see the sand to lines on a lot of the parts he claimed were poorly cast. When I sanded to the lines on my conning tower it sat level on my deck.
I know some people have had problems but nothing is ever dead on.

                      Well,
According to that guys site by his own poll, "Lee is a God" by 20% and Eric needs a new hobby,, lol,, seriously, I bought 2 hulls from Lee myself over 10 years ago. A 1/48 fleet boat, and a type IX 1/32nd scale, actually 13 and 11 years ago. They were both shipped in as near a time frame that Lee said they would be. I know he has had his ups and downs for what ever reason, but it seems like he will get you what you paid for at some point. Eric shouldn't of had to wait like he did. I had noticed The Scale Shipyard had been taken off the SubCommittee site for vendors. Thats how I ran across Erics site. Jeff Jones

Maybe I am one of the lucky ones, but I have always had good luck with Scale Shipyard. I have had problems with other vendors, but never this one. I hope that the problems get resolved. This is too small of a hobby to have one of the major vendors go under.

??? Every once in a while a new person surfaces from wherever to complain about Lee Upshaw or some other modeler turned manufacturer and they usually make themselves look like numbskulls. Regardless of any time problems, this new complainer has entered in a new phase of lack of class such as suggesting suicide and asserting that Lee has a drinking problem! Yes, I am an old friend and customer and will continue to support him. Not just because of our friendship and the fact that our kids grew up knowing each other, but because I have learned almost all I know about model boating from him. I came into model boating from real life drag racing and he has always been an educator and one of the biggest supporters of model boating in the country. Lee kept after me to join SC and after about five years I did; been happy with the decision ever since. He will die younger than most because of the work he does and stress he endures every day. Others have come and gone and come back, mostly because the profit margin, if any, is so small. Customers praise, but mostly it is the complainer who is the loudest. Lee is no god (lower case 'g') but he gets high marks from most everyone I know. The complainer, in this case, has serious problems of his own, with the greatest being his maybe not really being much of a modeler! Have another Pepsi Lee (but not too many, remember, that guy thinks you have a drinking problem).

                              It all sounds to me

It all sounds to me like "deja vu" I really know what this is all about. But whatever is said about Lee....when he makes a promise he will make it happen. Do'nt forget what Seaphoto stated: He's a one man company, taking orders from around the world and we should be glad that men like Lee are around to provide hulls we do'nt want to build ourselfs. So now and again somthing goes wrong..big deal!!! Stay patient and stay calm, it will make you a better man and you will be served.

                              Kind regards
