I`m sure the Revell a nice model , but i`m really leaning in the direction of the Robbe. And the price is a nice ball park figure. I`ll be able change alot of thing`s over to my spec`s , good thing`s take time.

      Okay.

Sounds like your stuck on the U47.

It's a decent enough kit, and there are lots of upgrades available, especially from a german company called dream arts. They can supply new decks conning towers etc. to turn the model into a very accurate rendition of the class.

One thing to bear in mind- this model is not a good dynamic diver. You need to ballast it with decks slightly awash to make it dive well.

The kit supplied motors are very hungry indeed, upgrades are available, or you can DIY.

To achieve a scale waterline requires a tank with a displacement of 1 litre. Most people have fitted an engel tank of 500 or 750ml displacment, and accepted a lower waterline.

What most people seemed to have missed, is the space between the saddle tanks and pressure hull.

This space can be used to incorporate genuine ballast tanks.

A twin stage system would be the answer, with the saddle tanks filled with a pump, or perhaps RCABS with bicycle inner tubes for sacks inside tubes. These tanks could take the boat to say 80% submerged

Then a smaller piston trim tank/s inside the hull could deal with the remaining 20%.

This system will give you more space inside the pressure hull for batteries and additional gadgets.
