Bill’s getting better day by day. He’s still in the ICU, but is sitting up on the edge of his bed and breathing almost completely on his own. Every day brings a bit more improvement.
The biggest problem now is that he must rebuild his muscles; they have atrophied since he has been in bed for six weeks today. He has also lost nearly fifty pounds, and most of that is probably muscle. They are going to remove the nasal feeding tube and give him a stomach feeding tube until he can get his appetite back. Swallowing may also be a problem for him for a while, since he has had tubes and a tracheostomy in his throat for several weeks.
I spoke yesterday with his diabetes doctor; she feels that his kidneys will recover after he’s up and around. But that is one problem we just have to wait out.
He looks great, despite being in a hospital bed, and is his old self] room, I am going to move in with him for a few days; the hospital will provide me with a cot in his room at no charge.

I just received this email from Pam today and thought that
I would post it.
I talked with Pam on the phone on Friday and she told me
that she will be taking all of the cards and letters to Bill
when he gets out of ICU.
