All,
Despite Tim's sweet announcement to the contrary, I have been quite skillfully and politically out-maneuvered and removed from the SCR. I am no longer Managing Editor, or Advertising Editor. Under the pretense of "helping me", the Executive Committee -- including myself -- were convinced to support paying Susan to take over the SCR on a "temporary basis". But when I expressed my desire to complete the March issue myself, it was made clear that my returning as Managing Editor whenever I wanted was not welcome.
The sad thing is I was ready to resign as editor anyway. I deeply regretted not getting the magazine out on time, and recognized that the membership might be better served by someone else. Furthermore, given my job constraints, I wanted to spend more of my free time with my family. My hobby must come after my family, not before. I was going to put my resignation in the March issue, but was willing to stay on as Managing Editor thru the Dec issue to allow time for someone else to take over and come up to speed. Even more sad, if I had been asked to resign I would have quite willlingly done so. I stated in this message board back in September that I would gladly step down if someone else stepped forward to take over.
I am therefore resigning from the SubCommittee. This will be my last posting to the SubCommittee message boards.
I stepped in as Managing Editor when Jeff LaRue was fed up and had had enough. He was going to drop it on the floor and let the chips fall where they may, which everyone was convinced would lead to the death of the SubCommittee. I stepped in because no one else would. I didn't want the SubCommittee to die, and I did the best I could given my job constraints. I do apologize to the membership for being unable to get the magazine out on time. I'm sure the membership will be better served by a paid professional than by a well-meaning volunteer.
I enjoyed getting to know many of you, especially my fellow members of SubRon5. I am proud to call the many wonderful people I met thru SubRon5 my friends, and hope to see you again at this year's FunRun.
I am also grateful to those who helped serve as the SCR staff, many of whom are also SubRon5 members. You guys are terrific. I'm sorry never got to meet many of you, and hope that perhaps our paths will cross someday.
Effective immediately, all matters regarding the SCR, including advertising, must now go directly to Tim Smalley.
So long,
Carl
