    Vom Original Zum Modell Books

    A lot of folks interested in U-boats end up buying one or more of the the series of books titled Vom Original Zum Modell. These books have typcially been a bit difficult to buy here in the U.S. unless you go to some place like amazon.de and work through the German language pages.

    Today I noticed that amazon.com (yes, the U.S. site) has finally listed these books. Not all are currently marked as "available" for shipping...but some are.

    It looks like they are listed as part of their marketplace agreements with other booksellers...in this case the VOZM books are being sent by a bookseller in the U. K. But at least now you can shop "locally" and get what you want!

    -enjoy,

          [color=#000000]Gantu,

          What are the dimensions of the "Vom Original zum Modell" books (width and height)? What is the scale of the technical drawings of the basic hull shapes? Does the Uboottyp II book have drawings of all 4 types in four views ( IIA, IIB, IIC and IID)?

          Do you know anything about the hardcover U-boottyp XXI and XXIII books by Eberhard Rossler? I read somewhere that the hardcover XXI book is suppose to have a fold out blueprint of an entire XXI boat in 1]

            Steve,

            I can help with soe

            Steve,

            I can help with soe of your questions.

            The VOZM books are A4 sized. The drawings in each book are the same drawings as found in the planrolles (where a planrolle is available)....but obviously, they are greatly reduced in size. If the drawings in the book are used, one has to figure out the scale since they have been reduced to fit the page.

            The scale of the drawings on the planrolles varies, but typically they are a mix of 1/100th and 1/50th. The 1/50th being used to show component details.

            The VOZM for the Type II has a mix of Vesikko and Type II A,B, C, and D drawings. As good as the Fritz Kohl drawings are for the Type II, I am of the opinion that the Gerhard Beck drawings are of more value to the model builder due to the inclusion of all the hull station details.

            I've got all of the VOZM U-boat books in my library....wouldn't want to be without them!
