    Sub plans

I see that there are no companies offering plans of US subs for sale that are newer than 1903.

No wonder people leave this hobby segment alone.

30 hours of web searches and nothing. For the Nautilus or the Halibut

Really keeps the average person interested.

Back to surface ships and planes.

What a waste of my time.

    There are modern submarine plans

There are modern submarine plans available from Floating Drydock and Deep Sea Designs, to name just two sources. They have fleet submarines, and some modern SSN and SSBN plans. They do not have either Nautilus or Halibut, however.

      Umm, just to be clear,

Umm, just to be clear, to which Nautilus are you refering? The Disney Nautilus, the Narwhal-class Nautilus which served during WWII, or the first US nuclear sub Nautilus (SS-571)?

Floating Drydock has plans for the Narwhal-class Nautilus that are copies of the actual builders blueprints. If that's the Nautilus you're interested in, I highly recommend getting them from Floating Drydock.

Plans for the Disney Nautilus, and for the nuclear Nautilus show up on ebay from time to time, but I have no idea of the quality of those plans...

      Hope this helps,

      Carl

        Hey cyclops2,

        You blow on in,

        Hey cyclops2,

You blow on in, make a few post, and then make the this statement?

"I see that there are no companies offering plans of US subs for sale that are newer than 1903.

When I was looking for 571 drawings it took me a month, but I found them and have them stored in a very save place!

You need to be a little more persistent!

          Lyle. I think your are

Lyle. I think your are taking it as a attack against you or Sub Committiee.

Wrong. I just set a certain amount of useless hours aside to any project I do. This one has used up the time. I move on. If we were sitting on a porch talking it would be different.

Web searches are lonely times. I do not enjoy looking for the not available.

          Thanks to all. Rich.

            Rich,

            I didn't take it as

            Rich,

I didn't take it as an attack. Seems ashame that you are gonna give up on subs after only 30 hrs of reaserch. What scale of 571 were you looing to build? The Halibut was based upon the Skate Class and I know that plans for them are out there. Chuck Anderson started on a Hailbut project over a year ago. Finding info to build one of the early "one off" Nuke Boats will take more than 30 hrs of web hunting. Heck, I am reseaching S Boats right now. About the same amount of material on the web as 571 and Halibut! But if you want to build them... you dig deeper.

The info is out there... I know, I've seen it... you just need to keep looking!

              A few months ago I

A few months ago I found nice line drawings of the SSN 571 and 575 (both on the same set of plans) by W. Wiswesser. The plans were in a web page and free to download.

              Try here]SubGuru: Nautilus 571[/url]

You don't need 30 hrs to find that! You only need 10 seconds to come here and ask...

I agree with you that it's not easy to find good quality plans and so but keep trying don't give up.

                Just as an FYI, those

Just as an FYI, those Wiswesser plans are pure fiction; especially the 575 Seawolf.

If you want a good set of line drawings, you can go to the sub museum in Groton ct. because there is a nice set on the wall. That is if you can rip down the wall

As for S boat plans Lyle, contact me offline and i'll see what we got.

                  Rich,

Ebay seller great_plans has plans for S-142 up for auction right now. I have no idea as to the quality of the plans, however...

                    Hey John
                    What are the errors

                    Hey John
What are the errors on the Wiswesser Nautilus / Seawolf drawings?

I've seen other drawings by this person (SSBN 599, SSBN 616 in particular) are there errors in these as well?

                      What's wrong ? where to

What's wrong ? where to begin.....

Seawolf - The entire aft section. He simply copied the just-as-wrong nautilus and used it for the Seawolf stern. Sail is the wrong shape.

Nautilus - The sail is too high. The profile is entirely wrong. Th bow is the wrong shape.

The Lafayette / Ethan Allen plans are not much better. The hull lines are not even close to being right.

FYI, you can get a very good set of plans for Nautilus from the US Sub Museum in Groton Ct. As for Seawolf, I have good photos but as of yet no plans.
