SSBN=??? - What does it stand for?

    Hi fellow subbers.

Does anyone know what "SSBN" stands for? Is it anything close to "Submergeable Ship, armory= Ballistic missiles, propultion= Nuclear"?

I've noticed that when the SSBN's are rebuild to carry (only) conventional arms, then they loose their B, and simply become SSN's..

Pretty close... The SS is just the two letter designator for Submarine - it does not mean anything more than that. The B indeed indicates ballistic missile capability (as apposed to a G which would indicate Guided Missile capabablity, at least some of the time...SSN and Spruance class destroyers the exception there, but I digress...)

The N refers to nuclear propulsion.

      Hi Robse,

I think I saw on the internet a description that says that SSBN stands for Strategic Submarine Ballistic Nuclear.

Have no idea weather it is right or wrong.
