A Call to ALL Az SubCom Members

To all members of the SC in Arizona. I am trying to get everyone together to possibly form a local chapter. I am having a hard time getting a hold of some of you. I have a friend that I am mentoring right now that is going to join, and another that I think that would be interested. I also have talked to a static modeler, an SC member, that would be interested in coming aboard. DesertBoat (Ray) I have tried to call and email you, but no response, feel free to email me. I have attended some other modeling clubs in the past, and much time is spent on club business and not much time on building. I personally do not like this approach, I think that an effective meeting would be on a Saturday for like 4-6 hours where we meet and bring our shop tools to share with all. We talk business for 10 min, then go to work building and sharing ideas and techniques. After that is done we go to the pond. I need your input and help to get in contact with me. My email can be reached through the link on the bottom of the screen. Please help in the effort to get a sub group here in the desert.

    Adam,

    If you're interested in contacting

    Adam,

If you're interested in contacting the Arizona members directly via mail, I can send you an address list for the Arizona members in electronic form so that you can print out address labels.

SubRon5 found out the hard way that we get better attendance at our fun-runs by maiing out flyers to the people in the SubRon5 area, rather than just relying on email and the message boards.

      That's the spirit, Adam!

      Carl's right.

      That's the spirit, Adam!

Carl's right. Phone calls and snail mail are the most effective approach at first. Do you have a member directory?
      Warm regards,

        I would love the electronic

I would love the electronic version. As for effectiveness, when it is a good time for me to call, people are getting ready to go to bed or are in bed, but I will eventually get a hold of everyone. Nonetheless, for those that are in Arizona and are reading please drop me a line. I know that someone has been trying to contact me as of late, but they have been calling when I am in school or at work. The call comes in as unavailable, so I cannot return the call. The best time to get a hold of me is after 6PM or before 9AM. My number is 480.201.8092.

          I live in North-west Chandler.

I live in North-west Chandler. About a mile east of Tempe and 50 yards South of Mesa.
If it's not too far, count me in.
I'm more into static than R/C

            Ok, I just talked to

Ok, I just talked to Mike. For any interested, we are going to have our first official meeting Sat the 11th of March. I think that we will have a meet and greet and show off your projects. This takes the official total to 3 that have said yes, and 2 others that are interested that I am going to confirm with. Guys, lets get the ball rolling. I know that there are more of you out there. Call me, email me, or do what ever. I too am going to be making some more calls.

Adam ... So far, the 11th looks good to me. I'm working at Firebird this week but I got your message today and will try and call you from the races. I've gotten back with full-size drag racing again after 30 years and I'm kept busy. I'll bring my new LA Class hull.

                Ok that makes 4 total

Ok that makes 4 total confirmed, and I still have 2 friends that I am going to invite, or am waiting for a response from. Also, Ray suggested a little Mexican restaurant that has a small room for meetings and such in Tempe close to the University. I think that this would be a good location for a first meeting. The goal of this meeting will be to organize ourselves find out who we are and show off anything that you might be able to bring. Also, we might identify all those that we know have an interest and figure out how to get them out to the next meeting. Any other ideas?

                    Good work Adam- A Desert

Good work Adam- A Desert chapter of the SubCommittee is a great idea! I suggest you branch out and talk to SC members in the other SW states as well. There are a fair number of guys in NV, UT, and NM as well.

At my request - this morning, SC membership chair Don Osler sent you the contact info you asked for.

                      Tim,

I got the info, now I need to do some writing.

                      Mike,
                      I will call you.

                      Ray,
if you are reading this, please post about the little restaurant that you were talking about. Could you see if it might be available. And to the rest, please com on board. I know that there are more of you. I have a total of 6 guys that are planning on attending the inaugural meeting. We want more. My girlfriend told me that I better dedicate that whole saturday to building model subs, she does not want to see me till later that night, after having mad a lot of progress on my boat (isn't she great, I know that many of you might be jealous of this, but you cannot have her)

Ok, here is the plan... We are going to meet out front of the Dobson Branch Library in Mesa. I think that this should be a fairly central location for all involved. The address is 2425 S Dobson Rd, Mesa. We will meet at 9AM. We should be able to recognize one another because we should be about the only ones there (the library does not open till 9]BRING A FRIEND (or two or three)!!![/b]

If you have any questions please call me 480.201.8092, I am helping out with a funeral and will be out of town Friday all day, and will not be at the computer as often as I might otherwise be. I will see you guys pond side Saturday.

[color=#000000]Guess I should have gotten on the computer more yesterday! The restaurant I was talking about (El Penasco) at Mill and Broadway starts opening at 9 am this Saturday for breakfast and has a separate dining room which we could meet in. Unless you have the outside meeting room (outside the library main entrance) the staff does not cater too well to groups talking/meeting there. Mesa Model Yacht Club meets at the pond there starting at 9]

Just reporting on a successful meeting here in the desert. It was a fine day for the inauguration for out local chapter due to the fact that we finally got rain here in the valley of the sun (a new record of over 140 days without rain). Attending this meeting were 7 people including myself. There were others who wanted to attend, but were unable.

The main achievements of the meeting were...

We are officially organized. I am acting as President (no one else wanted the job) and I am sure that we will have a few other posts to fill.

We have found a home to have local meetings and fun runs. We met at a small mexican restaurant and BSed for a few hours talking about our future, and then from there we walked around the corner and met with Bill. Bill is a co owner of a scuba training center. They have a large pool that is heated and cooled. They are willing to rent out the pool to us and have offered introductory dive lessons. For the cost of lunch we can go and run our subs in an area that is easy to retrieve a lost vessel.

Also it has been determined that we will meet every 2nd Saturday of the month at 9AM at the same location. We are also organizing times for training movies (ie watching Hunt for Red October and other such important training films).

We have yet to determine an official name, but are working on that. This is the report from the wet desert of Arizona. And for those that are interested, I have some pics of those that were in attendance of the first meeting.
