Just saying goodbye - Probably the last time I can write here

    Hi guys,

Thanks for all the good advice and such. This is probably the last time I'll be able to write in this forum. I'm no longer a member of SubCom because the only thing that connected me with you guys was the magazine and this forum. The magazine was always late and usually targetted on the american market. the Regatta's are always in the States (and my sub to heavy for airtraffic).

Now the forum will close for me (and others) too. You can find me (if needed advice on the Engel Patrick Henry or Robbe U-boots) on the Deutsches Marine- und U-Boot -Forum. Which will stay open for all who speak german.

    grtz.

    Danny-
I think you're jumping to a wrong conclusion here.
I don't believe this forum is closed to you. If you're not a member, you can still communicate through these boards. You'd lose your personal web page, but I believe that the message board can be used by members and non-members alike.
    Officers, please confirm???

        Danny,

You can still post as a non-member. (If you still wish to do so.) What you can't do is edit your posts once submitted.

          No, you've misunderstood.

As a non-member you can still post on this board.

What you won't be able to do is edit your posts, and you will now longer have any personal webspace on the site.

Those features are, and always have been for members only.

Regarding the 'US centric' bias of the Sub Committee, I think this criticism is a little unfair.

I'm sure all members would welcome more input from European members of the organisation (I'm one, after all!). However, if they don't contribute to the magazine by writing articles, then what are committee members supposed to do?

Regarding regattas, this is upto members to organise- why not start a local chapter, or if one already exists, help support it.

          Andy

            The SC boards

            Let me clarify...

The SC boards are not, and have never been closed to the general public. Anyone with an interest in the hobby is free to post and reply here, to share ideas and information, and to gain from the collective knowledge of the members here.

The website database maintenance will affect only those people who have not renewed their membership, and who now have images hosted on the SubCommittee website. By not renewing, they will lose the ability to host images on their webspace, and lose the ability to edit their posts and PM other members. They will retain the ability to post messages here, and to browse the SC website.

I sincerely hope that this clarifies the situation. Our intent by maintaining the database is not to chase people away or to punish those who do not renew, but to ensure that those who are members enjoy all of the benefits that the membership entails.

            Membership has its priveledges...

Please email me if you have any questions. I'd be happy to clarify anything that I've not made clear here.

OK then. Thanks for the info. I was really under the impression that I couldn't post anymore too. A local chapter wouldn't work I think. We have the Sonar organization next door and a "modelduikbootvaargroep" (roughly translated as a modelgroup with subs) which hold meetings.

Eventhought I don't post often, it's always handy to have a knowledge group around.

              grtz.

                    Gerwalk,

I agree that the warnings were a bit heavy handed, but after deliberation with the rest of the EC, it was decided that no one typically takes note of the general announcements if they are politely worded and subtle in their message.

It is an important announcement that will affect many people here. We simply hoped to ensure that everyone was aware of the situation in order to avoid any unpleasantries when we started deleting users.

                    Thanks for your input!

I read the notice and just took it as a heads up reminder for the SubCommitte Members that the yearly membership dues were due!
