I noticed Jim Wheeler's comments around the 2006 Regatta, and was wondering about Membership Renewal Notices and the 2006 Officers Election. Is there information on both items(or either) in the September issue? (I'm still waiting for it), or will there be some other communication with members?
The election ballot is part of the renewal card like we've done in the past.
Unlike what we tried for the last election, the renewal cards were not sent inside the envelope for the SCR. Too many folks didn't get their cards......so we felt it was better to fallback to sending the renewal cards out separately.
Carl indicated that the cards should have been mailed sometime earlier this week. (If I've gotten the week wrong, I'm certain Carl will chime in here!)
Lots of ideas but no know-how.
For future elections could it be done online.
Might save the cost of postage.
Could it be done like registering to the website. You pick a vote option button and enter your e-mail address and member number. You recieve an e-mailed ballot which you reply with your vote; and return.
Since membership numbers are public knowledge and might not be secure to register a vote how about issuing a private set of numbers to members for voting purposes.
I know more work for the webmaster. But this might get a better return of votes. ??
My recollection of the figures is that over 1/2 of all SubCommittee members, the only eligible voters, don't visit this site, and may not be able to exercise their vote unless they receive a paper ballot to mail in.
My apologies. The election notice text was the same that was used for the last election, with the dates updated. I missed the fact that it said the ballots/membership notice would be sent with the Sept issue, or I would have corrected it.
