    Russian Set 65KE Homing Torpedo

    Hi,

These two sites both have the same pictures of the same torpedo yet they have differrent calibers for each. Could someone explain please? I presume that as it is a 'Set 65' if would be the larger 650mm, not the 533mm, but i want to make sure.

    Site 1

    Site 2

    Thanks

    Well, I can't comment on

Well, I can't comment on the differences in reported caliber as I don't have the facts. I will comment on the peculiarity that the second website (that names this torpedo as a 533mm device) also mentions silver-zinc batteries. From all the reading I've done on Kursk, the silver-zinc batts were replaced with something else that was "not as reliable" and that it was this less-reliable alternate that had a hand in the loss of the ship...

I'm no expert, but based on the name I'd guess that they were 650mm.

There is a lot of poor information out there on Russian stuff. I hit it all the time. Especially disinformation on hull details.
The torpedo you are asking about is pulled from use, and no longer important.
Himzy, I thought you withdrew from both boards?

]http://www.subcommittee.com/forum/icon_sad.gif[/img] Motors, batteries and all the electronics etc have already arrived. I'll do a document on them, rather than a thread.
