    Advice from French members requested

    Folks,
I'm gonna have most of a day (probably) next week to kill in the vicinity of Rennes, France. Assuming I can stay away from the pi$$ant kids burning cars, what's to see? I know Lorient isn't too far, and may take a shot at seeing if I can get up close and personal with the U-Boat pens. Any experience or advice welcomed.

    Jim

    Hi Jim

    Hi Jim

Lorient is at 93 miles from Rennes. A trip is possible, if you need the route I can map it out for you. Will you rent a car ?
Non-sub related, you are 56 miles away the Mont St Michel a really pretty place you must visit if you are in France.
You are 150 miles away a real Seehund too, in a museum in Brest.

About our pi**ant teens, dont worry, it is not the civil war few medias wanted to show...The riots are getting rare now, I think that when you are in France, that everything will be calm.

      Antoine,
      Thanks for the information!

      Antoine,
Thanks for the information! I will actually be in St Gerand on Wednesday, and have Thursday to get to Rennes, unless something goes wrong with the job I'll be there for.

I will have a car, but will want to stay to main roads as I don't speak or read French. If you would be willing to map out the trip to Lorient and Brest, that would be very kind. What else is at the museum in Brest?

      Kind Regards,

      Jim

            Hey Steve,

Unless I am very much mistaken it is Thrust SSG it the current land speed record holder and is I think the only surface vehicle to have broken the speed of sound.

                Youre right Peter, it is

Youre right Peter, it is the Thrust SSC, the fastest car on earth with a record of mach 1.02 established in 1997. It is a brit car and certainly the most incredible machine the roads have ever seen

An american team (american eagle team) is trying to beat this record with a F104 Starfighter fuselage and motor fitted with aluminium wheels. Their goal : mach 1.08...

Jeff, Jim will be in the brittany area, Normandy will be maybe too far for him.

Jim, you have maybe already left USA for France, but I still can send you the maps if you check your emails there (but I do not have your email) ! I could give you my phone number too if it can be any help.
Another idea of visit : St Nazaire and its submarine museum with a real Narval class sub in a former Kreigsmarine pen.
                Contact me...
