    Sub regattas- do you charge?

    Hi,

Trying to get a UK Sub Regatta off the ground at the moment.

The best venue in my book is a Swimming pool, and I've found a suitable venue.

However, there will be a hire charge for use of the facilities.

I was wondering how other Sub Regattas are organised- do you levy a charge for sailing, or is the cost subsidised by the Sub Committee?

    Hi Andy,

    For the annual, formal

    Hi Andy,

For the annual, formal SubRegattas we do not charge a general admission. There are fees associated with entering the various contests such as the navigation, photo, and static events. These fees, along with selling vendor table space, are intended to cover the costs of putting on the event.

To date, we have not been required to pay for the use of a location. (Tim.....also true for Carmel, yes?)

On the other hand, Fun Runs have had to occasionally pay for location space.....in many cases in the form of a 'donation' to the space holder.

      Andy,

Our SubRon5 fun run requires a cost per day to reserve the facility. Someone pays up front for it and member donations are taken to evenly cover the expense.

In the past we've also tried to subsidize the expense by creating t-shirts and selling them for a little profit along with raffling a kit to raise money.
      Warm regards,

        Raffling a kit sounds like

Raffling a kit sounds like a good idea. Perhaps a little Revell Type VII or something along those lines.

Maybe also get Sheerline, OTW and Pandan interested, as they have everything to gain by growing this hobby.

I can't honestly see T-shirts being a big seller. Perhaps they're more popular with US members.

          Andy,
          I think raffling a revell

          Andy,
I think raffling a revell VII is a great idea! Pity about the T-shirts, I would quite like one. I could investigate how much they would cost as there is a t shirt print shop that does screen printed shirts very near me in Bournemouth. I think that it is a case of the more you order, the less the cost per shirt - but that obviously runs the risk of being saddled with excess unsold shirts!

          Paul.
