    56" Oberon kit ? - who made it ?

    hello Guys,
I picked up another project at the Regatta last weekend, a 56" Oberon hull kit. Anyone know who made an Oberon kit this size? You can tell it was made in a mold, and has an indexing lip around the lower and upper openings, about a 1/4" wide. This was made into the hull when the hull was laid up. Not 100% accurate, but looks pretty darn good. The previous owner thinks it may of come from England, but not sure. Thanks in advance.. Jeff Jones

      Hi Jeff,

OTW does make an Oberon kit....but it's 74 inches in length?

But you did mention hull lips on both the upper and lower hulls, which does sound like the OTW hull......

thanks Sam, Jeff, its not an OTW kit, Bob just dropped me a note, it looks like someone had made it from a mold so I thought it might of been a kit at one time, resin planes and rudder, thanks, should be fun to run.. small enough to carry by myself anyways... Jeff

              G'day Jeff,

In a couple of months time I will be driving down to sydney for a school excursion ( I'm a teacher) and we are going to the Sydney maritime museum. Parked alongside HMAS Vampire( a destroyer) is HMAS Onslow. An oberon. I intend to take my digital camera. I may be able to get some good photo's of certain things, just tell me what. No guarantees but I'll try.

              regards,

              David Hughes.

                G'day Jeff
they have H.M.A.S. Ovens at the Fremantle Maritime museam in Western Australia . So i have taken a few pic's of the Oberon submarine well quiet a few lol ,just went and counted how many pics i did take only 88 pictires some are nearly the same but from a slightly different angle. There are tours of the Sub about every 1/2 hour and as the Sub is on land you can get a good look at whats is below the water line If u want i could e-mail u a couple of pictures at a time
here is the link to the Ovens at the Fremantle Museam http://203.30.234.169/wam/mm/Museum/...sub/ovens.html

                regards

                Lee

                  Hi Jeff,

It could actually be an old Darnell "P" class hull (looks very similar to an Oberon, which was a development of the "P" class) that is now sold by Metcalf Mouldings in the UK.

The Darnell hull was about 55.75" long - don't think it had an indexing lip though.

You will find it on the following web site]www.metcalf-mouldings.com[/url]
