Do they intend to salvage the wreck, I wonder?
In only 3 meters of water, I wouldn't think it would present too many challenges.

See the story posted on this board back in November linked below. It sounds like the salvage problem isn't so much technical as it is financial.
It seems that most subs of the day are credited as "inspiration for Jules Verne's Nautilus". Brutus DeVilleroi's early sub experiments in 1837 in Nantes France may have been Verne's first "Aha" moment. Verne was a schoolboy at the time and went to the school where DeVilleroi was a mathematics teacher. There has been no proof found that Verne witnessed DeV's experiments but a ten foot sub that was being tested in the waters off a small town was probably pretty big news back then. Lockouts had also been used before - including in DeVilleroi's Alligator prototype (Jr.) built in 1859.

When last I heard the "Resurgam" a Victorian sub by the Reverend (!) Garrett is still rotting off the North Wales coast in a similar position tho the "Explorer."Comment
